Black History Month begins Tuesday, February 1st. I would like to share a book I received Young Trailblazers The Book of Black Inventors and Scientists (Inventions by Black People, Black History for Kids, Children’s United States History) published by M.J. Fievre . Which is the perfect addition for those of us wanting to teach our children about Black Friday.
I sat down to work on Lesson Plans for the upcoming months in our Homeschooling Class. I thumbed through the book and found Inventors and Scientists I would like to learn more about. Charlie came and sat down next to me and he picked up the book and started to thumb through the book.
Before I knew what was happening Charlie was reading the book and sharing with me things he learned. Next thing I know Charlie is on the computer goggling the Inventions and the Creators to learn more about them. I knew this book was a Godsend and would make learning this year not only a breeze but fun.
I like how the Author pulled out words we should know which can be used for a Spelling Test each week. Charlie can choose one Inventor or Scientist to learn about each day which will keep Charlie from getting overwhelmed in what he is reading.
There are facts we can use to create discussions with or for us to us in reports Charlie will be working on this year. Charlie and I enjoyed learning about the Authors and the other books they’ve written which we can also use in our Classroom.
I like how before we begin learning about the Inventors or Scientists there is quotes, we can print out and hang in our Classroom to reread throughout the year. They even mention Countries and tell us a little bit about them which we can Study in our Geography Class and our Study of States.
