I would like to share a new self-hope book with you Where Yellow Flowers Bloom A True Story of Hope through Unimaginable Loss by Kim Cantin.

Losing someone we loves is the hardest thing we ever face but losing several people at once would be unamalgamable. Living through a mudslide would be so hard and something most of us couldn’t imagine. I never thought of yellow flowers when thinking of my daughter Suzzane who was killed in a accident.

I believe my daughter Suzzie is a Butterfly flying free and when I’m having a hard day she comes and visits. Just as my best friend believes about her mentor and adopted dad. Like me Debbie struggles with her loss and her birthday is coming up next month. I plan on purchasing a copy of Where Yellow Flowers Bloom for her and my sister to help her cope with my parents death.

Through the story you can feel Kim’s love for her husband and the kind of man he was. Then there is the loss of her son and her determination to find him while protecting her daughter from the media. Through Where Yellow Flowers Bloom you learn the love of a mom and how no, matter what we face were never going to give up on our families. This may be Kim’s first book but I bet it isn’t her last book.

A heartfelt memoir that reveals the redemptive power of love, even through death.

In the early hours of January 9, 2018 unusually heavy rainfall combined with deforestation from the recent Thomas Fire and unleashed a devastating debris flow in Montecito, California. The unimaginable event was responsible for 23 deaths and cost $177 million in property damage. News of the mudslide that ravaged the unsuspecting community made national headlines. Among those headlines was the tragic story of the Cantin family.

Where Yellow Flowers Bloom chronicles the events leading up to and following the disaster that took the lives of Kim’s husband David, their son Jack, and their dog Chester. Miraculously, Kim and her daughter Lauren were somehow spared. The book details Kim’s journey of survival—through mourning her husband’s death while recreating life for herself and her daughter, to following her intuition and receiving extraordinary support from her community to find Jack’s remains. Her story is full of mysterious and awe-inspiring messages, signs, and synchronicities that prove reality is greater and kinder than we can conceive.

“The dark, thick slime seeped in under our doors. The muddy water came up through the bottom of our front walls and front doors. I looked down at Chester, lying on the floor near my feet. I told him, “Let’s go!” But he tilted his head and looked up at me hauntingly as he lay on the carpet. Chester did not move. He seemed to know there was no escape. I heard a horrifying, unfamiliar noise that sounded as if I were standing under the walkway of Niagara Falls. Like the roar of an oncoming train, mere inches away.”

This is Kim’s first book, and she hopes her story can show others, especially those affected by trauma and grief, the power of determination and resilience, and the importance of looking for positivity when at times it seems impossible to find.

Yellow flowers grow in an unexpected place. Despite the magnitude of loss and grief, they help Kim to see beauty where there should be none. In the end, love found a way.

Meet the Author: Kim Cantin

Kim Cantin was living the American Dream in Montecito, California, along with her loving husband, two great kids, and their goofy dog — until the early morning of January 9, 2018, when catastrophe struck in the form of a natural disaster.

She met her husband Dave when they both worked at Johnson & Johnson. Having enjoyed a 20-year career in sales and marketing leadership, working for a Fortune 500 medical device company, she later started her own successful marketing consulting firm so that she could have more work and family balance. She also worked as a senior director of marketing for Teleflex Urology. In her spare time, Kim volunteered in the community and was involved in her children’s activities.

Kim still resides in the Santa Barbara, California area. When she isn’t spending time with her daughter, friends, or family, she is with her two pups.

“Where Yellow Flowers Bloom” is her first book.
