What is the Main Cause of Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs are a source of blood-sucking hindrance, quite literally. They require blood to survive and breed and are somewhat an expert in hiding. These insects tend to hide near a food source and come out to feed until it is safe. Their minuscule size and transparent skin do not help us as well.

You can observe for these revealing indicators that bed bugs are now your unwanted roommates. Firstly, one would find little and itchy bite marks on your exposed skin. Additionally, there will be blood marks and stains on your bedsheets. And lastly, you can spot them on the seam and edges of your mattress. Dim the lights and use a flashlight because these tiny terrors come out at night to feast.  

It is a common misconception that bed bugs are drawn to filth and clutter. The mess can help bed bugs avoid detection longer, but they can habitat even the cleanest and tidiest of places. Then what causes bed bug infestation? In simpler words, it is the lack of awareness. We are not mindful of beg bugs’ ability to hitchhike, till we fall victims ourselves. Here are a few common examples of how one might encounter a bed bug infested area.

Traveling

Unlike other bugs drawn by filth, bed bugs do not magically appear if your room is a little unclean. They are looking for blood and might hop a ride to your home through your clothing or luggage. Hotels and motels incubate a notorious environment for people to transfer diseases and even bed bugs. They can make themselves at home in hotel beds, mattresses, and furniture.

Thoroughly examine the furniture of the room you are temporarily living in. Furthermore, keep a habit of immediately washing and drying your clothes when you arrive home. You can purchase an odorless bed bug repellent and comprehensively spray it all over your suitcases.  

Pre-Loved Furniture

Everyone loves to explore thrift stores and garage sales for hidden treasures. However, your secondhand discovery can easily be a Trojan Horse for an army of bed bugs hiding inside it. This is a common method of invasion for these insects.

Public Spaces

Though it is not perceived as a common method of transfer, one can still encounter bed bugs in public places. Unfortunately, these insects do not restrict themselves just to the bed as their name might suggest otherwise. Bed bugs can infest movie theatres, schools, public transports, offices, and other spaces where human proximity is close.

This makes it hard for us to stay diligent and nearly impossible to keep an eye out for them every time we step outside. You just need to be careful and trust the common methods of prevention.
