It can be hard to know what sort of blind is ‘right’ for your home, nowadays there are so many types of blinds to choose from, before you even start thinking about which fabric and colour you’d like.
So unless you’re some sort of blinds aficionado it can be hard to know what the differences between all the different types of blinds are and whether or not they’d work in your home.
Well luckily for you, we have spoke to the blinds aficionados over at DotcomBlinds.com to get answers to your questions about blinds and what blinds your home needs!
What Room Needs Blinds?
The first question, should be what room are your blinds going in? “Different rooms have different needs and requirements when it comes to blinds” says the team at DotcomBlinds.
In rooms like living rooms, hallways and entryways, there aren’t any specific needs for the room, so any type of blinds will work well, making it a matter of style rather than practicality.
But in the kitchen or bathroom, you’ll want to avoid wooden blinds or blinds made with a soft fabric that can hold water, which rules out wooden venetian blinds and fabric roman blinds. This is because stains and water can degrade the blind over time if it’s not made of the right material. So in bathrooms and kitchens you’ll want your blinds to be made from plastic or a wipe clean, water resistant material.
And in the bedroom, you’ll want a blind made out of blackout material, to create a nice dark environment to sleep in and block out light pollution from outside. So if you want a good night’s sleep make sure your blinds are blackout rather than dimout!
How Big is The Window?
The next question you should have is ‘how big is your window’ says DotcomBlinds. Believe it or not, not all blinds can be made to the same size, so depending on the size of your window you may have more or less options.
For small or medium sized windows, any type of blind should do the trick, the problems start to come out when you’re looking at bigger windows however. Most blinds can be made up to around 2 meters wide and any larger than that will have less options.
If your window is over 2m wide, the best choice would be roller blinds or vertical blinds are your best option. Just make sure that your retailer specialises in wide blinds. DotcomBlinds specialise in extra wide or large blinds and make adjustments to the hardware of the blinds to ensure that the size of the blind will have no negative effects. So for really big windows, look for specialist retailers who can sell extra wide roller or vertical blinds.
How Much Do You Want To Spend?
Finally, before making a decision, you should set a budget of what you’re happy to spend on blinds. Different types of blinds have different costs to them, for example a 100cmx100cm roller blind from DotcomBlinds would cost around £30, but a Roman blind made to the same size could cost up to £150.
So having a good idea of what you’re looking to spend can help you keep to a budget and avoid overspending or disappointment from falling in love with a product outside your price range..
When you know how much you’re comfortable spending, have a look for blinds in that price range, which should give you a more concise list of options, making it easier to make a selection, rather than worrying about price second.
