It’s Friday, October 11, 2019, and time for a Virtual Field Trip and I wanted to share a couple Recommended Website with everyone. If you have used these resources let me know what you think of them and why. FDR Library and Museum Virtual Tour Age Range: All (All grades; children with parental supervision) This website not only provides visitors a virtual tour through the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, but it also offers wonderful educational opportunities to learn about the 32nd President of the United States, the Great Depression, the New Deal, and World War II. When arriving at the link, click the “Launch Now” button on the screen. There are multiple ways to explore the museum. You may use the “Back” and “Next” arrows to work through the slides, or you could expand the “Explore the Museum” button at the top right then choose your destination or you could use the map in the bottom right corner to select a location. You can also access the site map from the “Explore the Museum” button which provides a great way to reach the topic of interest quickly. Some galleries include close-ups of artifacts, documents, as well as additional resource information, audios, and teachable moments. The teachable moments include brief video segments. Each gallery includes informational text beneath the presentation. This website is an excellent resource for your history studies and a wonderful insight into the life and world of Franklin D. Recommended Website: Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm Age Range: All (All grades; children with parental supervision) Our 39th President of the United States, James Earl “Jimmy” Carter Jr., was born on October 1, 1924 in Plains, Georgia. At this website, take a virtual tour of his boyhood home as President Carter shares stories of his life on the farm. When arriving at the link the tour will immediately begin. Be sure to have your sound turned on to hear the President’s narration. The video image moves itself, but visitors can use the Left and Right buttons to move the image or simply click on it to stop it and drag to where you would like to look. You can also zoom in closer for a better look. Use the “Next” and “Previous” buttons to move through the slides. The tour can also be viewed in “Full” screen mode. The tour begins in the back of the house, then moves onto the front. Other locations of the farm include: Tennis Court Commissary (store) Garden Blacksmith shop Pathway to farm bell Barn Clark House Milking shed What makes this simple tour special is the narrations from President Jimmy Carter. This will make a great addition to your presidential studies. |
