Teddy Bear Day– always observed on September 9th

September 9th is Teddy Bear Day, a holiday. A Teddy Bear is a special friend to children all over the world. Teddy Bear’s are cuddly. Teddy Bears makes you feel secure in an otherwise insecure world. Children need both comfort and security. Teddy Bears are lovable, too. Your Teddy Bear is both a companion and a comforter. Our Teddy Bear isn’t afraid of the dark. Our Teddy Bear will keep you safe. While we may think of Teddy Bears as a child’s friend, many adults have Teddy Bears, too.

As we become adults, some find it difficult to give up our Teddy Bears. We feel there is no reason to give our Teddy Bear up. Many adults keep their childhood Teddy Bears around all their lives. Some adults purchase new Teddy Bears for their own comfort.

History of Teddy Bears

Did you ever wonder how Teddy Bears came about?

During the early 1900s, President Theodore Roosevelt was in office as President of the United States. Theodore Roosevelt was a hunter. While hunting in Mississippi in 1902, Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a small Bear. The Washington Post picked up on this story and made a cartoon of the event. Toy store owners, Morris and Rose Michtom, wrote to President Roosevelt for permission to call their stuffed animals “Teddy Bears”. Teddy Bears became wildly popular. Their company went on to become the Ideal Toy Company, one of the largest toy companies in the world.

History and Origin of Teddy Bear Day

We found no factual information about this holiday and there is an occasional reference to this holiday on February 22nd.

A Vermont Teddy Bear company has declared its own “National” Teddy Bear Day on November 13th. We believe this is for the promotion of their products. We did not find information to support this as a National day. Zoos, Museums, Toy Stores, and many kids’ venues declare “Teddy Bear” days for various reasons. This leads to references of this holiday on a variety of dates.

We believe Teddy Bears are very important to children young and old. Teddy Bears deserves a day of recognition.

Thank you,
