The Mommies Reviews

Welcome to our series sharing Unique Holidays: September 9th, 2021. Did you know its Teddy Bear Day? I didn’t and I don’t have any of my Teddy Bears from when I was a child. Do you? Before you ask David doesn’t have one from his childhood either. As for Charlie I don’t think I have the first Teddy Bear he got which would have been from my Brother for Christmas.

Although, I do have a Monkey called David Jr. that belongs to Charlie and was the first Gift his dad bought Charlie. Along with Suzzie Pig Squealer and her Monkey Monkey Sue which is named after her and my Eeyore David had a friend bring me back from Disney.

Teddy Bear Day

Today is Teddy Bear Day and we all know a Teddy Bear is a special friend to not only children but adults from all over the world. Teddy Bears are cuddly and they make you feel secure in an otherwise insecure world. Teddy bears are lovable and our Teddy Bear is both a companion and a comforter. And, he’s not afraid of the dark. Your Teddy Bear will keep you safe.

Spend the day and night with your Teddy Bear and cuddle up to him. Talk to him. And, do all of your favorite things together.

Parents and adults: No child should grow up without a Teddy Bear and if you know of any kid without a Teddy Bear, use this day to buy one for them.

As we become adults, we might find it difficult to give up our Teddy Bears which wee feel there is no reason to give him up. Did you know some adults have their Teddy Bears around all their lives which is perfectly normal.

The History and Origin of the Teddy Bear:

During the early 1900s, President Theodore Roosevelt was in office as President of the United States and he was a hunter. While hunting in Mississippi in 1902, he refused to shoot a small Bear. The Washington Post picked up on this story and made a cartoon of the event. Toy store owners, Morris and Rose Michtom, wrote to President Roosevelt for permission to call their stuffed animals “Teddy Bears” after that Teddy bears became wildly popular and their company went on to become the Ideal Toy Company, one of the largest toy companies in the world.

Origin of Teddy Bear Day:

We found no factual information about this Holiday but there is an occasional reference to Teddy Bear Day on February 22.

A Vermont Teddy Bear company has declared their own “National” Teddy Bear Day on November 13th which we believe this is for promotion of their products. We did not find information to support this as a National day. Zoos, Museums, Toy Stores declare today “Teddy Bear” Day for various reason.

Teddy Bears are very important to children (young and old) which is why the Teddy Bear deserves a day of recognition. Get your Teddy Bear out and give him or her a extra big hug today.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
