Good morning, how are you? I would like to share Unique Holidays: September 1st, 2021 with you. Take a look at the Holidays and let me know which one you most want to celebrate and why.
Emma M. Nutt Day, the first woman telephone operator
Emma M. Nutt Day celebrates the first woman Telephone Operator in America.
Emma Nutt became the first woman telephone operator on September 1, 1878. She loved the job, and worked at it for 33 years.
This special day celebrates the world of Telephone Operators. It was a very important job for many decades. Today, the position has been eliminated being replaced by Automation in Telephone Systems. Can you imagine what Emma would think about today’s Cell Phone World!?
A little side note about Emma: According to Emma, she was “very thankful that my first name was not Imma”.
Today is a sweet day which is National Cherry Popover Day. Cherry Popovers are tasty treats made from an Egg Batter and Flour mix. This doughy Muffin is filled with Cherries, then baked and the Cherry Popover is baked in either a Muffin Tin, or a special Popover Tin. either, way its totally delicious!
We just love Food Holidays because they taste so good. Everyone can participate in this Holiday. Eat a Cherry Popover. If your a baker, you can have more fun today, as you bake Cherry Popovers. If your going to make Cherry Popovers to share with people at work, its okay to make them the night before.
History and Origin of National Cherry Popover Day:
We do not know who started this tasty day, and we don’t know why but were sure glad they did. Most likely, the creator was someone who really likes Cherry Popovers…
World Tofu Day is always celebrated on July 26
UK National Tofu Day is always celebrated on September 1
The goal of both World Tofu Day and the UK’s National Tofu Day is to celebrate Tofu as a Vegetarian alternative to Meats and Fish. This Holiday celebrates healthy Tofu and encourages people to stop the cruelty to Animals through a more Vegetarian diet. Vegetarians and Animal rights groups applaud Tofu, and promote it’s consumption.
A second goal of these two special Holidays, is to spread awareness of the benefits of eating a Plant Based Diet, especially as it impacts animals. SPA Canada an animal rights group and the creator of World Tofu Day, uses this day to strongly fight to end Animal Cruelty.
Asian in origin, the word “Tofu” in Mandarin translates to “spoiled beans”. Early Chinese knew that Tofu was healthy and they associated the consumption of Tofu with a long and healthy life. In addition, Tofu didn’t cost much, serving as an affordable option for those who didn’t have Money for Meats.
Tofu is a Vegetable product made from Soybeans, that is rich in vitamins and protein. It is a healthy and Organic substitute to Meat and Fish, and is a staple of Vegetarians. Soft, bland, and Custard-like, Tofu doesn’t have much flavor. Like Potatoes or Rice, it’s what you put on it, that makes it so enjoyable.
There are several steps to making Tofu. The first steps, are to make Soy Milk. A second series of steps produces Tofu. You can have fun today, by making your own Tofu… How to make Soy Milk and Tofu
The roots of Vegetarianism dates back to 600BC in ancient Greece. But, it wasn’t until the 10th Century that the Chinese perfected the process of making Tofu. There are also some references to Tofu being first created in Japan around the same time.
Whether you are celebrating World Tofu Day or National Tofu Day, Tofu should definitely be on your menu today. Recipes abound and are just an internet search away.
The History and Origin of World and National Tofu Day:
World Tofu Day was created by the Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) Canada in 2014. SPA Canada is an Animal rights protection group that seeks to end Animal Cruelty and encourage humans to practice Plant Based Diets.
National Tofu Day was created in the United Kingdom and appears to have started around 2017-2018. We have not yet identified who created the Holiday. This special Holiday is beginning to gain popularity in the United States.
