International Talk Like A Pirate Day
This Holiday is rowdily celebrated on September 19th.
Ahoy, Matey! Did you know today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day? Aday just for fun, a day to let out the pirate in each of us. We like “just for fun” days and we know you do, too.
Practice up your “pirate-speak” in anticipation of the Holiday and the conversation will be lively, and you don’t want to be left behind. Everyone will be talking the talk, if not walking the walk and it isn’t a requirement to dress like a Pirate today. All we ask is for you to talk like a Pirate today.
History and Origin of International Talk Like a Pirate Day:
John Baur and Mark Summers created the concept of International Talk Like a Pirate Day on June 6, 1995. While playing Racquetball, they began to talk to each other in Pirate-speak”. After leaving the Racquetball Court, they decided there was a need to create Talk Like A Pirate Day. After much thought, Mark Summers selected September 19th as the date because this was his wife’s birthday. Mark Summers thought it would be an easy date to remember. So, International Talk Like a Pirate Day was born.
National Butterscotch Pudding Day
National Butterscotch Pudding Day gives us good reason to enjoy a tasty dessert. Butterscotch may not be as popular as Vanilla or Chocolate Pudding, but, Butterscotch Pudding is good. If you like Butterscotch, the thought of Butterscotch Pudding has got your mouth watering.
Like all food related special days, its easy to participate just eat Butterscotch pudding.
A Change of Dates: National Dance Day was moved from the last Saturday in July, to the third Saturday in September, at the request of the American Heart Association (AHA). The AHA wanted to link this Holiday to their Kid’s Heart Challenge in September.
Make no mistake today is not a day to be a couch potato. Get up off the couch and dance up a storm. Dance all day and dance the night away, during National Dance Day. The goal of this Holiday , is to encourage Americans of all ages to get more exercise, to fight obesity, and display an artful expression. Dancing burns up calories, strengthens your heart and tones your muscles. An active, fast dance helps keep you in shape, while you are having the time of your life.
National Dance Day celebrates all forms of dance. Get you heart pumping with “Break Dancing”. You can do the Twist, Disco Dancing, the Charleston, the Macarena, the Boogie, or the Swim! If you want to be a little provocative? Do the Bump or be a Belly Dancer. If you’re into Ballroom Dancing, grab your partner and do a Waltz, Cha-cha-cha, or Tango.
Perhaps ethnic or tribal dances are your thing, like Irish dances, the Polka, or Clog Dancing. You can also dosey-do with your partner in a good old fashioned barn dance or try square dancing. Oh, and don’t’ forget the “Hokey Pokey” or the “Chicken Dance”. Which are perfect for people with two left feet.
One of the most memorable American dance experiences, was the television show American Bandstand. This musical performance and dance show aired from 1952-1989. Hosted by the infamous Dick Clark.
All you have to do to celebrate this Holiday, is to tune in to the music, and step up to dance, dance, dance. You can dance by your self, or with others. Dance in your living room, at a club, or enter a dance marathon.
Must have movies to watch today:
- Dirty Dancing (1987) with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.
- Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John

Wife Appreciation Day – third Sunday in September
The objective of this Holiday, is for wives without children to receive appreciation from their husbands. Mother’s Day is for wives with children. Today is an opportunity for husbands in a childless marriage, to recognize the value of their wife. Letting her know how important she is to you, and how much she is appreciated and a day that she truly deserves.
It should be very easy to show appreciation to your wife, for who she is, and for all the great things she does for you. You know her well, her likes and dislikes. Begin the day by telling her that she is appreciated. Give her a few examples why. Then, select a couple of things she likes to do, and make it happen. Giving her a gift is perfectly okay, but in is not a requirement.
While this day was originally intended to honor wives in a childless marriage, we encourage all husbands to show appreciation for their wives on this day. Showing your appreciation today, is a basic ingredient for a long and happy marriage.
Gentlemen, you will get your day, too. It’s in April……. Husband Appreciation Day
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
