Good morning, its time for us to share our series featuring Unique Holidays: October 20th, 2021. Looks like its time to go out to lunch at our favorite restaurant to thank our Waiter for there service because today is not only International Chefs Day but National Waiters and Waitress Day. Would you like to come to lunch with my family?
National Brandied Fruit Day celebrates sweet tasting Fruit, soaked and marinated in Brandy. Branded Fruit Day may be a Holiday you have written on your calendar, to celebrate. As for my family we don’t and before we ask we hadn’t even heard of Branded Fruit until this morning. How about you?
Enjoy Brandied Fruit today with family and friends.
History and Origin of National Brandied Fruit Day:
We did not find the creator, or the origin of this Holiday. Do you think the originator of this Holiday might have been a little tipsy when the Holiday was created?
Like many other food related Holidays this is often referred to as a “National” day. We did not find any documentation confirming this and we found no congressional records or presidential proclamation.
Not all Holidays or special events originate in the United States. Some of the really great Holidays originate in other parts of the world. International Chefs Day is one of Holidays, and it comes to us from Southern tip of Africa. But the Holiday has spread around the world. Making International Chefs Day a truly international Holiday.
One of the things that makes this Holiday so great, is it isn’t just about honoring or celebrating Chefs. Although, one of the objectives of this Holiday is to celebrate this noble profession, and to promote a exciting career. The main focus of International Chefs Day is to provide education. Especially to kids, on how to eat healthy.
The organization Worldchefs is perhaps the largest promoter of International Chefs Day. This is a world-wide network of Chef associations. Each year, the Worldchefs organization sets a theme for this Holiday, which helps to provide Educational materials to interested groups. These materials makes it pretty easy for your group to hold healthy eating programs for the community.
To celebrate this Holiday, schools, governments, and local organizations are encouraged to hold Educational programs, Workshops and Exhibits on how to prepare healthy foods. In keeping with the stated goals of this Holiday, a special emphasis should be placed on holding programs for young people. Teaching children how to establish healthy eating habits for a long and healthy life.
History and Origin of International Chefs Day:
This world wide Holiday was created by South Africa’s famous chef, Dr. Bill Gallagher in 2004 and he is known as the “Godfather of all chefs”.
Did you know today is National Waiters Day in the United Kingdom… along with the World for that matter. When it comes to having a pleasant and memorable experience, a waiter or waitress is worth their weight in gold. Today, is your opportunity to express your appreciation for all the waiters and waitresses at the restaurants you frequent. The Holidays was created “for waiters all over the world”.
According to Fred Sirieix, the creator of this Holiday, there are two goals for this day. First, is to change the perception of waiters. Were not certain what needs changing. Secondly, to recognize their excellent hospitality skills. Much of a waiters compensation comes from a tip you give them. As a result, waiters have to be “on top of their game” all of the time, whenever they are working It’s not always easy to have a smile on your face, and a song in your voice, as a waiter must do. Waiters can’t be in a bad mood or depressed, or it will show in there attitudes. To maximize their tips, waiters need to be pleasant always. Even as the customer at the table next to you is being nasty.. Like other service jobs, rule number #1 is “the customer is always right”. This applies even when the customer is wrong. Being a good waiter can be trying at times.
If you go out to a restaurant today, show your appreciation to the waiter or waitress. Let them know that you appreciate all of their efforts. Put a little, make that big, bonus in their tip!
How Much to Tip a Waiter:
Strange as it seems, there is much debate as to how much to tip the waiter.
The general rule of thumb is 15% to 20% of the pre-tax total. For exceptional service, its appropriate to give more. For self service,10% is a sufficient. Often people give somewhat less for poor service or bad food. Sadly, the Chef’s performance sometimes impacts the waiter’s tip amount.
