Clergy Appreciation Day?

Why Clergy Appreciation Day?

Clergy Appreciation Day is also referred to as Ministry Appreciation Day, the holiday is celebrated in commemoration of Pastors, Priests, and Ministers in the United States and the work they render towards our Society. The celebration of this holiday happens in the month of October, which also happens to be the Clergy/Pastor appreciation month.

The celebration of Clergy Appreciation Day began with the idea to celebrate the contribution of Priests, Ministers, Reverends, and Pastors to the Country, especially in the US. Clergy Appreciation Day is also the day that encourages Ministers and Pastors to keep up with their good work and continue their contribution.

How can we observe Clergy Appreciation Day?

Clergy Appreciation Day is celebrated in many ways across the Country. There are many congregations held in the honor of the Pastors, offering them regards for the contributions the Pastors make to the community. There are also those who make use of this Pastor Appreciation Month as an occasion to pay back their Pastors or Priests with gifts, paid vacations, meals and in other ways, showing their appreciation.

On Clergy Appreciation Day you can also show your appreciation in many ways. Some of the means to show your appreciation for pastors is:

  • Compliment your Pastors on the work they are doing and do so in front of others.
  • Churches provide a lot of opportunities for all to volunteer and contribute to society. You can join to be a volunteer which will help the Pastor.
  • As your Pastor prays for you, you can also offer Prayers to keep your Pastor well.
  • Writing a thank you note to the Reverend or the Pastor in person.
  • Ask your Clergy for any assistance they may need.
  • Be an active member of your congregation and share what your Clergy does for the congregation with the outside world.
  • Make sure that you attend services and sermons regularly, which would give them immense happiness.

Everyone needs an appreciation for the work they do which serves as the motivation to try harder. This includes the elders of the Church, Pastors, and the Priests, as well. Encourage them for their contribution and appreciate them for what they do.

Appreciate the people of Clergy that you know about in your life and give them a shout out on your Social Media using the tag #ClergyAppreciationDay.

History of Clergy Appreciation Day

The beginning of the Clergy Appreciation Day started with the establishment of Pastor Appreciation Month. While there is no set date when this holiday was actually established, there is quite a bit of history to the day itself.

The very first time the mention of appreciating Pastors for their contribution was mentioned in Timothy 1 (5:17) where it is stated that church elders deserve double the honor by Paul. This is further reiterated by him in Thessalonians 1 in which he mentions that those who are hardworking among us have to be treated with a lot of honor.

This evolved into a month-long celebration known to be the Clergy Appreciation Month, started in the year 1992. Religious workers and Pastors established this month-long appreciation for cClergymen and the Pastor Appreciation Day was established later in the same month, October. Now we celebrate Pastor Appreciation Day or the Clergy Appreciation Day every year on the second Sunday of October.
