Welcome to our Unique Holidays: November, 2021: National Model Railroad Month. Did you know Charlie and I have only been on one train and it was Thomas the Train but Suzzane always took the train to Oklahoma. I hope one day before Charlie gets to old that we will be able to ride a train as well. If you had the opportunity to take a trip on a train were would you go and why?
National Model Railroad Month
November is National Model Railroad Month. It makes sense doesn’t it? The days are darker and colder, the Holidays are coming, and you start to think about that train around the tree or maybe about what you might do to keep busy during the longer nights
This is the time for you to promote National Model Railroad Month by showing non-model Railroaders what it’s all about, and how much fun it is.
Here are a few idea starters:
- Have a layout open house for your neighbors…just distribute flyers to several houses near yours telling them you have a model railroad in your home, and this would be a great opportunity to sneak a peek. Ask them if they have Trains as well and if so to bring a piece or to to share with everyone.
- If you work outside the home take a train to work. Or bring a model train to your workplace and put the train in a spot where your co-workers can get a look at it. If you’re really ambitious, bring a different model every or every day!
- Host a class at your Public Library all you need to do is to contact the Library, tell them what you’re planning. Then book a time to host the class. Then hold a “How to get started in model railroading” Seminar by showing pictures and having models that the participants can see and touch.
- Take a few dozen photos of your layout with your smartphone, then show them to your friends and co-workers. Explain to them how easy it is to get started in model railroading, and explain how fun it is.
The point is, if you want to see our hobby grow, you’ve got to help it grow nd November is the month to do it.
For Christmas this year I actually have a Model Train for Charlie which we will be able to set up every year during the Holidays to run around our Christmas Tree. I can’t wait to see what Charlie thinks of the train because this is the first time he has ever had one. As well as David.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
