Holidays

Welcome to our series sharing Unique Holidays: May 21st, 2022. I would like to ask you to take a look at the Holidays being celebrated today and let me know which Holiday you most want to celebrated and why. As for Charlie and I we try and celebrate the Military every day so celebrating Armed Forces Day for us is a walk in the park.

Armed Forces Day – third Saturday of month

Armed Forces Day is simply a holiday to salute sharply all of the men and women in all branches of Military, who protect us and our Country. The Military can be called upon at a moment’s notice to perform a risky and perilous mission for freedom and our Country. The Military train diligently both physically and mentally, so they will be prepared to prevail in any missions they face.

Just how did it all begin?

Each branch of the Military had their own day of celebration but, on August 31, 1949 then Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day. Then President Harry Truman also announced the holiday in a presidential proclamation on February 20th, 1950. All branches of the Military were asked to celebrate on this holiday and they complied on the first Armed Forces Day which was held the following year on May 20th, 1950.

Take a memo because today is National Memo Day. What is the holiday for and who created the holiday? Why? These are questions awaiting an answer that may never come. Every once in a while, we discover a holiday with no known history or description.

Have a pen and paper handy or go grab a post-it note. Stand ready at your PC. We suggest you enjoy National Memo Day by taking memos wherever and whenever possible.

If we had a say in creation of this holiday, we would rename it “National No Memo Day”. Think of the extra time you’d have, if you didn’t have to write any memos today!

History and Origin of National Memo Day:

Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this holiday. Despite performing numerous searches in a variety of ways, we found no content for description for this holiday. We did find many references on Ecard companies and calendar sites which is no surprise.

National Waiters and Waitresses Day

National Waiters and Waitresses Day recognizes the value and importance of a good waiter or waitress. When you go out to eat, the waitstaff is the face of the restaurant. The waitstaff are all the difference, between a good or a bad experience.

You already recognize your waiters and waitresses every time you go to a restaurant and that recognition comes in the form of a tip. The tip should be commensurate with the quality of the service.

The original National Waiters and Waitresses Day was started to bring attention to and improve pay for the waitstaff. The total pay consists of the tips you give them, and a minimum wage. The minimum wage is lower than the general minimum wage, as it is intended to recognize tips as a portion of the overall compensation.

You can recognize your favorite waiter and waitress on National Waiters and Waitresses Day by giving them a bigger tip. If you can you could also give them a card or verbal recognition,

Waiters and waitresses should recognize this holiday by making sure by providing exemplary service.

History and Origin of National Waiter and Waitress Day:

Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this holiday which appears to have been created around 2011 – 2012.

Around 2017, some references began to call this holiday “National Waitstaff Day” and we=e speculate that this was done by some to shorten the title and make it gender neutral.

We all recognize that good service is essential, for a pleasant experience when dining out. So, it’s logical that this holiday is on the calendar. We only wish that the creator was known, so we could find out more about this important holiday.

Thank you,
