Good morning, welcome back to our series sharing Unique Holiday with you. Take a look at the list below and let me know which Holidays you most would like to celebrate and why.
Armed Forces Day – third Saturday of month
This is simply a day to salute all of the men and women in all branches of the military, who protect you and our country. They can be called upon at a moment’s notice to perform a risky and perilous mission for freedom and country. They train diligently both physically and mentally, so they will be prepared to prevail in any mission they face.
Just how did it all begin? Each branch of the military had their own day of celebration. But, on August 31, 1949 Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day.
President Harry Truman also announced the Holiday in a presidential proclamation on February 20, 1950. All branches of the Military were asked to celebrate on this day and they complied on the first Armed Forces Day which was held the following year on May 20, 1950.

What happened on this Day? This Day in History
Did you know today is National Sliders Day a holiday event created by White Castle restaurant. Funny, but this holiday coincides with your lucky day! Why you ask? It’s because every year, White Castle’s 400 (or so) restaurants give away free sliders.
If there isn’t a White Castle restaurant near you, you just might find another restaurant getting in on the fun, offering free sliders or specials. Slide on over to your favorite Hamburger restaurant and chow down on a few sliders.
The original Slider was a square, two inch hamburger on a small bun which was created by White Castle restaurant in 1921. Back then, White Castle sold the Sliders for a nickel each and the Slidders were sold in sacks. Time Magazine once called the slider “the most influential burger”.
By definition, a slider is any sandwich on a small hamburger bun. The original Hamburger variety remains the most popular. Many restaurants have “hijacked” the name slider, and now make them out of all sorts of meats.
After Hamburger, Chicken and Barbecued Pulled Pork are the favorites. Don’t be surprised, if you chance across some very unique sliders. Did you know Sliders are popular on menus as appetizers. Sliders also make a great late night snack. But, can you eat just one? We think not.
Did You Know? In 2014, Time Magazine proclaimed the White Castle Slider “the most influential burger of all time”.
Have a happy National Sliders Day.
