Good morning, how are you? I wanted to bring you our series featuring Unique Holidays: March 17th, 2022. Before I head out to walk with my sister. Before you ask me where we are going, I honestly don’t know. Were ever the wind takes us. Would you like to come with us?
Absolutely Incredible Kid Day – third Thursday of month
Sure, our kids may be pretty good. But, at one time my kid was absolutely incredible! As a matter of fact, all of my son is absolutely incredible. As a parent, I’m going to take full advantage of being Charlie’s parent and use my bragging rights, to let you know my kid is absolutely incredible. I sure hope Charlie is reading this, and that his head doesn’t not get too big to get through our door.
If the paragraph above doesn’t give you a good impression of the purpose of this Holiday, then you probably don’t have kids. When those children do arrive, you will most certainly use this Holiday to profess how incredible your kids are but remember tomorrow they go back to being brats.
“Kids” are baby goats. Does that mean this Holiday is really about Goats!? I don’t think so.
Celebrate today by letting your kids know how good they are, and how much you love them.
History and Origin of “Absolutely Incredible Kids Day”:
Campfire USA created this Holiday as a day in 1997, to show kids they are loved and cared for. Among other things, they suggest you write a letter to your kid today.
This Holiday is always held on the third Thursday in March.
If it is Saint Patrick’s Day, then it most certainly be National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day which is no coincidence.
You may be surprised to learn, that Corned Beef and Cabbage is as American as Apple pie. A traditional recipe in Ireland was Salt Pork or a Bacon joint with Cabbage and/or Potatoes. Beef is not popular in Ireland, as the ancient Celtic culture considered Cows to be sacred. Cows were most often used as work animals on farms. In the mid 1800’s, Irish immigrants to America, found their Jewish neighbors had Corned Beef, which was similar in taste, but much cheaper. So, the American version of this easy to make Irish dish, became Corned Beef and Cabbage.
Recognizing that Corned Beef and Cabbage really originated in America, you may wonder if you can truly call it “Irish”? Well, of course it is! It was created by Irish people who just happened to be immigrants to the U.S.
Corned Beef is usually made from Brisket or Round Roast, cured in a seasoned Brine. Corned Beef and Cabbage recipes are easy to make. The basic ingredients are Corned Beef, Cabbage, Potatoes and Carrots, slowly stewed in Water. I bet if you look online, you will find a recipe.
You can add a variety of other Herbs and Spices to the recipe all you need to do is experiment.
Don’t forget when Irish eyes are smiling. They are probably up to something.
History and Origin of Corned Beef and Cabbage Day”:
We did not find the creator of this Holiday or identify when it was created but I am certain it was an Irishman or woman.
Purim – begins at sundown, date varies
February 26, 2021; March 17, 2022; March 7, 2023; March 24, 2024; March 14, 2025; March 2, 2026
Purim is a two-day event beginning at Sundown on the Fourteenth day of Adar, the twelve months of the Jewish calendar.
Every race and religion have their solemn and their festive holidays. Purim is the most festive of the Jewish Holidays. Children dress in costumes and people give gifts. Usually, Solemn Synagogues are turned into festive arenas. Children shake noise makers called “Graggers”.
The festive holiday centers around Queen Esther, King Ahasuerus (or Achashverosh), Mordecahi and Haman. The event took place in the Persian Empire in the Fifth Century, B.C. It is a celebration of a major victory against oppression of the Jews at that time.
Submarine Day – the hero sandwich or the boat??
Submarine Day does it celebrate the Submersible Boat, or the big Hero Sandwich? Most everywhere you find documentation on this Holiday, it hails today as a day to celebrate the Submarine Boat. We are certain that the April 17th holiday is about Military Submarines, as the U.S. Submarine Force was established on this date in 1900. That leaves us wondering what the March 17th Submarine Day is all about. Perhaps, it is in celebration of hero subs!?
Enjoy Submarine Day by watching movies featuring Submarines. Or, read a book about Submarines. If you live near a Naval Museum, take a drive to see a Submarine today, and if allowed, go aboard.
If you work at a deli, it’s perfectly okay to celebrate Submarine Day with a Hero Submarine of your choice. If you own the Deli, give us a deal and run a Submarine Day special. In this case, celebrate Submarine Day on March 17th.
Don’t forget to listen to the song The Yellow Submarine, written and recorded by the Beatles.
Saint Patrick’s Day is in honor of the Patron Saint of Ireland, who brought Christianity to the Emerald Isles, as Ireland is known. Saint Patrick’s Day is truly a day of celebrating Irish history, ancestry, traditions and customs.
Saint Patrick’s’ Day has many symbols and traditions, from Shamrocks and Leprechauns to Green Beer and Corned Beef and Cabbage. Saint Patrick’s Day Parades are popular in many cities around the U.S. Interestingly, the first St. Patrick’s Day Parade did not take place in Ireland. The Parade took place in New York City, in 1762.
Are you Irish, me lads and me lassies?! The saying goes everyone is a little Irish on Saint Patrick’s Day.
Roots of Tradition: Saint Patrick’s Day is held in honor of Saint Patrick, the Missionary who brought Christianity to the Irish people in the 400’s AD.
Erin Go Braugh is perhaps the most common Irish term you will hear. Did you know this saying means “Ireland Forever”
Did You Know? Over 34 million Americans are of Irish descent. That’s almost nine times the population of Ireland!
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a Jell-O Shot.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
