International Day of Awesomeness

International Day of Awesomeness is celebrated on March 10th every year. Which is a Holiday where anybody, no matter who they are, may celebrate their awesomeness. Yes, we all possess awesomeness in some way. Today, let go of any insecurities and prepare to give yourself the praise you deserve. No one is perfect, to be sure. Everyone, on the other hand, is amazing in their own way. All you have to do is spotlight one of your qualities and concentrate on what makes it so special.

HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF AWESOMENESS

The word ‘awesomeness’ has many positive meanings. For example, awesomeness may refer to a remarkable quality in a person’s personality. At the same time, awesomeness denotes a quality that inspires others’ awe. As a result, it’s no surprise that awesomeness is overused nowadays.

International Day of Awesomeness is a fun event that manages to spread positivity because it is held at a time of year that focuses on celebrating awesome people. You might wonder how someone becomes awesome. Well, an awesome person is someone who is impressive, or inspiring.

The International Day of Awesomeness was first observed in 2008 by Kevin Lawver, the day’s creator. Lawver came up with the idea for this celebration while working with an intern named Freddie Maneiro. The intern had suggested that “Lawver’s awesomeness needs to be celebrated,” so the Holiday was announced on Twitter. Since then, the trend has gained traction and is now celebrated on a global scale. Furthermore, Dan Lurie polished the concept by coming up with the catchy tagline, “Because everyone needs an excuse to be awesome.” Later on, Lawver’s daughter also came up with an inspirational new tagline, “No one’s perfect, but everyone can be awesome.”

The date was also chosen because it falls on Chuck Norris’s birthday. Chuck Norris is a man who is renowned for his awesomeness! Regardless of who you are or what you do, use this Holiday to pat yourself on the back for simply being awesome!

History and Origin of International Day of Awesomeness

Kevin Lawver, a web application developer, and a bunch of his co-workers conceived this Holiday. Fred Maneiro, an intern at Lawver’s company suggested that there should be a celebration for awesomeness. Lawver picked up on the idea, created the details around it, coined the day as National Day of Awesomeness, and promoted it on Twitter. The day quickly became global, and the name was appropriately changed to International Day of Awesomeness. Other co-workers, most notably Dan Lurie, also contributed to the development of this Holiday.

International Find a Pay Phone Booth Day– always held on March 10.

Today is International Find a Pay Phone Booth Day and let me tell you this is not so easy to do because Phone Booths are on the “Endangered Species” list. While Phone Booths are few and far between, there are still some pay phone booths out there. You just have to look and today is a call to action. Your mission is to go out and find a working phone booth.

In the days before cell phones, you could find a phone booth almost anywhere you looked. You could find phone booths in any City or Town, and on almost every Street Corner in America. Phone booths were in every restaurant, store, mall, and public building. For a dime, then a quarter, you could place a phone call.

Over the several decades of phone booths use, there have been many variations of phone booth designs. The traditional phone booth was an enclosed, rectangular box. Original designs were wooden frames with glass walls, evolving to metal frames with glass or plexi-glass walls. Modern, indoor phone booths are an open booth, with a pay phone inside of it

The first pay phone booth was called a “telephone cabinet”.

The arrival of cell phones spelled the death knoll for millions of phone booths, yet there are still a few phone booths around and working.

If you find a phone booth today, place a quarter in the slot and call someone you know but be quick about it. The quarter pays for three minutes. If you want to talk longer, it will cost another quarter for three additional minutes.

The objective of International Find a Pay Phone Booth Day is to go out and find a working phone booth. Then, savor the nostalgia for a moment and take a picture, and by all means make a phone call.

Phone Booth Stuffing

As a prank, on March 20,1959, twenty-five students in Durbin, South Africa, succeeded in stuffing themselves together inside a phone booth. This record was recognized by Guinness Book of World Book of Records. This wild stunt quickly caught the attention of people, mostly students, across the world. Phone Booth Stuffing became a worldwide craze.

In England, it was called “Telephone Booth Squash”. A few other groups of students claimed to have broken the world record but were determined to have cheated. One of these groups used an extra large phone booth which resulted in a set of rules for Phone Booth Stuffing. The 25 person record stands to this day. As quickly as this craze began, it died out in late 1959.

Telephone Trivia

Alexander Graham Bell was granted the first official patent for his telephone on March 7th, 1876. Alexander Graham Bell fought years of legal challenges to his claim that he was its sole inventor.

After years of work, Alexander Graham Bell made the world’s first telephone call on March 10th, 1876.

Oddly, Alexander Graham Bell refused to have a telephone in his study because he feared it would distract him from his Scientific work.

In 1878, Thomas Doolittle created the first telephone booth which was originally called a “telephone cabinet”. Users could place calls between two towns for 15 cents. The telephone cabinet was patented in 1883.

In the United States, it took 44 years for the automobile to gain 25 % market share. The telephone reached 25% market share in 35 years. The Internet took just 7 years to reach this benchmark.

Several days after the famous “Mr. Watson come here ….” Bell was testing his instrument over a longer distance. Bell and Watson were upstairs with one instrument while Charles Williams was using the other instrument downstairs. Someone called for Bell from another telephone. As Bell went to the other room, he handed the instrument to Watson and Bell said “here, hold this”; thus, the term “putting someone on hold” was born.

The first telephone exchange opened on January 28th, 1878, in New Haven, Connecticut.

Phone service was established at the White House one year after its invention and President Rutherford B. Hayes was the first president to have telephone phone service.

In the early days of telephone booths, some phone booth users did not like the telephone booths, as the doors often got stuck.

In the 70’s and before, all phone booths would take incoming calls. People could wait for a call, or call back. Sometime in the 80’s the phone company stopped this service, claiming it helped drug dealers.

In the 1990’s, before cell phones became popular, there were an estimated 3,000,000 pay phone booths in the United States alone.

Origin and History of International Find a Pay Telephone Booth Day

This Holiday was created in 2018 by Bob Matthews of Rochester, NY. Stumbling upon an increasingly rare pay phone booth in a local shopping mall, Matthews recognized the importance to recording this soon to be relic, before they completely disappeared.

This Holiday is defined as an “International” day and the importance and popularity of pay phone booths was truly global.

March 10th is designated “International Pay Telephone Booth Day” because this is the date Bell made his first telephone call to his assistant, Mr. Watson.

Middle Name Pride Day

Middle Name Pride Day is celebrated on the first Friday of the first full week in March. This year, the Holiday takes place in March 1oth. When a baby is born, the parents or grandparents would usually give the child a name. Naming a child is a big responsibility that adults take very seriously. Debating over how their choices of a name could affect the child’s life. Often choosing first and middle names that are meaningful both on their own and together. Middle names were born as a means to commemorate older, or often, dead family members, or Godparents. However, some people don’t know much about their middle names. This is the perfect day to ask our parents how you got your middle name and is a great exercise to learn about our deeper identity, and the stories of the relatives who lived before us.

HISTORY OF MIDDLE NAME PRIDE DAY
The origin of middle names has some interesting context, but Historians do not know the exact date middle names first appeared in English-speaking Countries, but records indicate that the practice may have first been used in upper classes. The earliest similarity to middle names can be found in Ancient Rome where men from aristocratic families had a personal name, a family name, and a sobriquet that was usually self-given or indicative of the person’s personality or family branch. However, this practice was lost long before the fall of the great Roman Empire.

Europeans of royal and noble birth used middle names in their real sense in the Middle Ages, usually having a given name, a Baptismal name, and a family name. Immigrants to America in the 16th to 18th Century took this trend to the new world, eventually losing the religious precept. It was still common by the 17th Century for those of high birth to have many names. The perfect example is the pretender to the British throne James Francis Edward Stuart — and it remains the practice in modern royal families. For example, Queen Elizabeth II of England’s full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary.

The great thing is Middle Name Pride Day may reveal a lot more than just our middle names. Different Countries and cultures have varying traditions when it comes to naming children. This is also the day to discover the traditions surrounding middle names that are new and unique to us. In some Countries, middle names reflect the mother’s maiden name. In other Countries, they honor a close relative or friend. Other people choose middle names because they simply like the sound, meaning, or significance behind the name. Or even the acronym created with the full initials.

Middle Name Pride Day is all about being proud of the name that’s usually restricted to the first letter. The holiday organizers encourage revealing our middle names to at least three people today. As part of the Celebrate Your Name Week, it was established in 1997 by American Onomatologist Jerry Hill.
