The Mommies Reviews

Good morning, welcome back to our series sharing Unique Holidays: June 6th, 2021. Take a look at the Holidays celebrated today and let me know which one you most would like to celebrate and why.

 D-Day, WWII

WWII veterans mark 76th anniversary of D-Day

On this Historic day in 1944, Allied troops invaded the beaches of Normandy, France. It is the largest amphibious assault in world history. This massive, bloody battle was the turning point of the war in the European theater.

On this day, 156,000 troops from the United states, Great Britain and Canada stormed five beaches. American troops landed on Omaha and Utah beach. At the same time, British troops landed on Gold and Sword beach. And, Canadian forces landed on Juno Beach. 4,000 Allied troops died on these beaches on D-Day, 2,000 of them were American.

Please take a moment of silence today, and thank the many soldiers who fought and died for our country on D-Day.

National Gardening Exercise Day

National Gardening Exercise Day - June 6th - Shonnard's

Being Saturday Charlie’s best friend has returned to his dads. David is working and we had nothing to do this afternoon. But I plan on getting Charlie out to help me mow our yard.

Then we will work in our Garden then Charlie has to go to his grandmothers to mow and to his client Linda’s to pull Weeds so as you can see Charlie and I will get get out and exercise with our plants. How about you?

Everyone knows gardening is therapeutic and gardening is good for the mind, body, and soul. Gardening Exercise Day gives us an opportunity to go out and burn off calories and have fun doing it. National Gardening Exercise Day is intended to recognize the important physical health benefits of gardening.

In reality, gardening is exercise. Experts say the various activities and tasks of gardening ultimately uses all of the major muscle groups. In addition, strenuous gardening activities such as raking, hoeing, and digging is both aerobic and muscle strengthening.

Take time today to celebrate one of America’s favorite hobbies. Go out and exercise with, and among, your plants. Bring a friend and let them help you while spending time together.

National Frozen Yogurt Day – first Sunday in June

8 Celebration-Worthy Recipes for National Frozen Yogurt Day

I would like to share a secret about me with you. I don’t like Yogurt but Charlie and David do. Do you like Yogurt? Do you make it at home or go out and get Yogurt at Yogurt Store and why?

International Frozen Yogurt Day: is always February 6

National Frozen Yogurt Day: First Sunday in June

Frozen yogurt is a great, healthy and tasty treat and were ecstatic that there are two days to celebrate it. But, don’t limit your consumption of frozen Yogurt to just two days a year. Eat it as often as you can!

You know what to do, to celebrate both frozen Yogurt days. International Frozen Yogurt Day, as its name implies, is the broader of the two holidays.

Everyone around the world can partake in a dish or cone of their favorite flavor of frozen Yogurt. Froyo Yogurt shops are located in many countries around the world.

They strongly promote this day, offering free Yogurt samples and discounts. Froyo uses this day to come out with new Yogurt flavors and toppings. Not to be outdone, many other retail outlets that sell frozen Yogurt, have their own promotions on this day.

National Frozen Yogurt Day, may sound more limiting, and apply to just one country (presumably the U.S.). But, who is to stop anyone, wherever they are, from enjoying delicious Yogurt on this day?

Did You Know? Just a few years ago, there were two National Frozen Yogurt days on the calendar. And, there was almost a third day created to celebrate frozen Yogurt.

History and Origin of International and National Frozen Yogurt Day:

International Frozen Yogurt Day was created by the International Frozen Yogurt Association (IFYA). At the time of it’s creation, there actually were two dates for National Frozen Yogurt Day.

We suspect the IFYA chose the February 6 date, as little was known about the creation of the holiday on this date. On the other hand,  it was well known that TCBY created the National Frozen Yogurt Day in June.

Rather than create a third day, they expanded the February 6 National Holiday into an International day, so everyone could celebrate and enjoy frozen Yogurt.

No one seems to know why a February date was originally chosen. Perhaps, the intent was to increase sales in winter, when demand for Frozen Yogurt is at is lowest.

National Frozen Yogurt Day was created in 1993 by The Country’s Best Yogurt (TCBY’s) . Obviously, they did so to promote frozen Yogurt and, we are so glad that they did. Understandably, the June date was selected, as warm Summer months creates a natural rise in demand for frozen Yogurt and Ice Cream.

Vanilla Frozen Yogurt

3 cups nonfat Greek yogurt

⅔ cup white sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  • Step 1 Stir the yogurt, sugar, and vanilla extract together until the sugar has dissolved. Cover. Refrigerate 1 hour.
  • Step 2 Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer’s directions until it reaches “soft-serve” consistency. Transfer to a one- or two-quart plastic container with a lid; cover surface with plastic wrap and seal. For best results, frozen yogurt should ripen in the freezer for at least 2 hours or overnight.

National Yo-Yo Day

Every Day Is Special: June 6 – National Yo-yo Day

Is there one thing your friends could do when you were a child that you couldn’t do? For me that was Flying A Kit which I couldn’t keep in the Air and tricks with a Y-Yo never worked for me. How about you?

Before you ask me if David and Charlie are good with Yo-Yo I’m not sure about David and as for Charlie no, he isn’t and also he hasn’t ever flown a Kite. Before you ask me if David has I don’t know, but you could ask him.

Yo-Yo day is here…hooray! Not that you need an excuse to play with your Yo-Yo. Wherever you are today, get out your Yo-Yo and impress your friends, family, and co-workers with your Yo-Yo skills. And, do it at work today!

If you don’t think it’s appropriate at work, consider the fact that three U.S. presidents (Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon) showed off their Yo-Yo expertise while in office!

The Yo Yo origin is hard to factually prove many believe that the Yo-Yo originated in China as early as 500-1000 B.C. However, their is some evidence that the Yo-Yo was first used in Greece even before this time. Over the centuries the Yo-Yo has had it’s ups and downs (tee, hee).

The classic Yo-Yo was made wildly popular in America by businessman Donald F. Duncan Sr. He manufactured the “Duncan Yo-Yo” in the early 1900’s.

Celebrate the Yo-Yo today by “walking the dog” or “shooting the moon“, the most popular tricks.

History and Origin of Yo-Yo Day:

This holiday was created in 1990 by Daniel Volk from Cleveland, OH. Volk a yo-yo demonstrator. National Yo-Yo Day was established as June 6th to honor the birthday of Donald F. Duncan Sr., the founder of Duncan Toy Company.

Yo-Yo Trivia

The worlds largest Yo-Yo weighs 256 pounds, and is on display at the National Yo-Yo mMuseum.

In 1992, Jeffrey Hoffman took a Yo-Yo into space aboard the shuttle Atlantis. I bet that kept the Astronauts busy.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
