The History and Origin of National Apple Turnover Day:
Our research has not revealed who declared National Apple Turnover Day a special Holiday, or when the Holiday was first celebrated. Were mildly surprised that this special day is celebrated in July, because Apples will not begin to ripen until in the Fall.
Neither the U.S. Congress, nor the President of the United States has proclaimed today National Apple Turnover Day. Although, we do recognize that eating Apple Turnovers is as patriotic as baseball, hot dogs and Apple Turnovers!
I have a question for you. Do you wear a Bikini to the Swimming Pool because I don’t and I don’t even think they make a Bikini that would fit me. Isn’t that sad…
Did you know on July 5, 1946, the first Bikini was worn and modeled. That makes this a very special day, National Bikini Day. Oddly, National Bikini Day is referred to as “National”, but it didn’t originate in the U.S.
At that time, conservative Americans largely shunned the Bikini, until the 1960’s. Perhaps the word “National” refers to France, where the Bikini was first modeled.
The Bikini is worn by tens of millions of ladies, from very young girls, to not so young ladies. Hard to believe, there are a few ladies in their 80s who wear Bikinis! Can you imagine that?
How to Enjoy Bikini Day:
Ladies…….put on your Bikini and get out in the Sun. While Poolside or at the Beach is most desired, its not a requirement. Gentlemen…………. Today is an absolutely beautiful day. Go out and take in the scenery, but, by all means, be gentlemen!
History of the Bikini:
Two piece bathing suits were around long before 1946 and they covered most of the body, and showed only a little midriff. In the 1940’s, a good looking woman was referred to as a “Bombshell”. Some called them Nuclear.
There were two French clothing designers of two piece bathing suits. One bathing suit was called the “Atome”, and the other called “Bikini”. Both bathing suits were in reference to Bikini Island, where the United States tested atomic bombs and the name Bikini won out.
The Bikini was first modeled on July 5, 1946, at the Piscine Molitor Swimming pool in Paris, France. When French Designer Louis Reard could not get models to wear the “indecent” Bikini at the show. So, he turned to a showgirl, Micheline Bernardini.
Can you believe the first Bikini was made of just 30 square inches of fabric. Since then, the amount of coverage has continually shrunk. A woman can look great in a Bikini. But a word of caution: Bikini waxing is a rip off !
Famous Bikini Wearers:
- Raquel Welch has honors for the most famous bikini shot in One Million Years B.C.
- Ursula Andress in Dr. No
- Bridget Bardot on the Beach at St. Tropez during the 1953 Cannes Film Festival
- Bo Derek in the movie “10”
- Princess Leia wore a metal Bikini in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
- Halle Berry- A Bond Girl in Die Hard with Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.
- Marilyn Monroe in any one of a number of Bikini pictures.

The world’s Largest Bikini photo was in Sydney, Australia and the photo included 1,010 girls on September 25, 2001.
Ancient Minoan paintings, circa 1600 B.C., show women in two piece suit, similar to Bikinis.
St. Tropez claims to be the Bikini posing capital of the world.
When women wear a bikini, they reveal 90% of their body and men are so polite, they only look at the covered parts.
The Origin of National Bikini Day:
It is clear that this Holiday marks the modeling of the first Bikini. Our research has not revealed who declared this a special holiday but we are glad they created it.
This is not a true “National” day. Neither the U.S. Congress, nor the President of the United States has proclaimed today National Bikini Day. Recognizing that the Bikini originated from French designers, it is possible that this day originated as a National day of France but, we found nothing to support this theory.
Work-a-holics Day – even though just about everyone is on 4th of July holiday
Today is Work-a-Holic Day and it recognizes the guy, or gal, who works all of the time……. even during Holidays. While just about everyone is enjoying the Fourth of July holiday, the Work-a-holic is off working on some project.
The Work-a-Holic can’t relax because it’s not in his nature. He’s addicted to work. It’s not necessarily work out of need. It’s work because there either is work to be done, or there’s a perceived work project to do.
Remember: “All Work and no play, makes John a dull boy.” … Author unknown.
How do you know if your a work-a-holic:
- It’s the Fourth of July weekend, and you are at work or brought home work.
- You are working because “It’s fun!” Yes, we’ve heard that one before.
- You work because you want to, not because you need to. (yeah, right)
- You are always the first one to work and/or the last one to leave.
- It’s Saturday, and you’re working.
- It’s Sunday, and you’re working.
- You’re last thoughts as you fall asleep are related to work.
If you are a work-a-holic, we encourage you to use Work-a-Holic Day to break the habit and simply take today off. Turn off the phone and computer and no, matter how tempting it might be don’t turn them on.
I have a question for you. Do you know a work-a-holic? Then I suggest you introduce your work-a-holic friends and loved ones to Hammock Day and to Relaxation Day.
