Popeye the Sailor is right. Spinach is one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Spinach tastes good, and there are many recipes you can prepare using Spinach. Many people turn up their nose to Spinach, without even trying it.
If the truth were told I’m one of those people but trying to lose weight I need to add Spinach to my diet and I need to get David and Charlie to eat it as well.
The reason for eating fresh Spinach, is the nutritional value is highest, when SPinach is fresh and uncooked.
Celebrate this day by introducing fresh Spinach to your meals today. You could start by mixing in Spinach into your Garden Salad. Your family may not even notice, but by doing so, you are making them healthier!
Gardeners know that Spinach is easy to grow. And, it’s hardy. You can plant Spinach as soon as the ground can be worked in the Spring. Why, that’s today in many parts of the country! Here is More information on Growing Spinach.
There is another day that we celebrate this healthy Vegetable and it’s National Spinach Day, celebrated on March 26th. We think it is great that there are two days to celebrate this Vegetable, and to encourage people to eat healthier.
I have a question for you? Did you know V-8 Vegetable Juice is not just Tomato juice? V_* Juice includes 8 vegetables and one of the Vegetables is Spinach.
“I’m strong to the ‘finich, ’cause I eats me Spinach. I’m Popeye the Sailor man!” – – Popeye the Sailor which is a Cartoon I watched as a child. Did you watch this as well?
History and Origin of Fresh Spinach Day:
We haven’t yet found the originator of this special day, or any Historical reference to when the Holiday was started.
World Snake Day is today.
Snakes have been around since the Garden of Eden so its only fitting, that the world has a special day to celebrate Snakes.
The Bible tells us that in the garden of Eden, Satan appeared to Eve in the form of a Snake. That connection to Satan, gave Snakes a bad reputation since the beginning of time. Perhaps that’s why so many people are afraid of Snakes.
Did You Know? Earthworms were once believed to be a species of Snakes. Gardeners killed every one they found, unaware of the beneficial effect of Earthworms in gardens.
A little Snaky Trivia:
- There are over 3400 species of Snakes.
- Snakes are on every continent, except Antarctica. I think I should move there because not only am I afraid of SNAKES I hate them. How about you?
- Snakes eat Insects, Rodents and Frogs. Large Snakes can even eat small animals like small Deer, Pigs, Monkeys, and small Dogs.
- Snakes swallow their food whole.
- The longest Snakes are a species of Python, which can reach 30 feet in length.
- The heaviest Snake, an Anaconda, weighed 550 pounds. Can you imagine that?
- The smallest Snake is just 4 inches long.
- Snakes shed their skin 3-6 times per year.
We didn’t find the originator of Snake Day. but the key historical reference for World Snake Day is Day 6 of Creation, when God created Adam and Eve. A snake tempted Eve into eating the forbidden fruit.
Based on this historical event, we could believe Adam and Eve created World Snake Day!
