Good evening. How are you? I wanted to share our series featuring Unique Holidays: July 15th, 2022. Would you check out the holidays being celebrated today and let me know which holiday you most want to share and why. Charlie and I are so tired from the past weekend we are sitting out celebrating today but will be back soon to celebrate with you. In the meantime what would you like to do and why?
Today is Be a Dork Day so if you qualify as a dork, stand up, be counted, and be proud. If you are not currently a dork, today is your chance to be a dork if only for a one day. We are not sure why you would choose to be a dork today or any day. But, if you want to become a dork go for it and enjoy this holiday with all it has to offer.
Not sure you want to be a dork? The adjectives used to describe a dork include: awkward, clumsy, goofy, odd, out of touch, ridiculous, silly, and a Social misfit these are the qualities you will need.
A Dork is not a nerd or a geek because nerds and geeks have a higher IQ, and while quirky, nerds or geeks are held to a higher level of esteem.
The Origin of Be a Dork Day:
Be a Dork Day is a copyrighted holiday which was created and provided, courtesy of the great folks at Wellcat.com
Today is Cow Appreciation Day which is no Bull although today is something to “Moo” about.
Our appreciation for Cows can be expressed in many ways. Some websites suggest you go out and give a Cow a hug which might sound like fun, you don’t have to go to extremes to enjoy this holiday. It can be as simple as pausing for a moment to think about Cows, and all that they give us.
Now that we’ve had our moment of silence, it’s time to celebrate. Have a glass of Milk. Add Chocolate Syrup, if you prefer. Then, fire up the grill, and cook Hamburgers or a Steak. Don’t forget to have a slice of Cheese. No, Goat Cheese is not allowed today.
Restaurants and Dairy Companies celebrate this holiday by offering specials which you should watch for and they will save you money.
Gummi Worms are a gross yet deliciously sweet and sour chewable Gelatin Candy. That translates into a wildly popular candy for young children, teens, and adults. Never mind that Gummi Worms are loaded with Sugar and therefore not good for you. Everyone loves the flavors, of Gummi Worms along with the squishy, Worm-like texture. Therefore, it’s only appropriate that today we get to celebrate Gummi Worm Day.
Unlike their predecessor, Gummi Bears, Gummi Worms have the “yuck” factor nailed. Gummi Worms are used in many ways. You can enjoy Gummi Worms all by themselves although, the fun is the ways you can put Gummi Worms into desserts or snacks. Just imagine the decorating possibilities. You can hide Gummi Worms in Pudding, Frosting on Cakes and so much more. You are only limited by your imagination. Of course, Gummi Worms are very popular in Halloween treats, too.
The original name for Gummi Worms in Germany is “Gummi”. In the United Sates the name was translated to “Gummy” which is pronounced the same. However, you can spell Gummi any way you prefer. I promise everyone will know exactly which candy your referring to.
Gummi Worm History
You can’t talk about Gummi Worms without talking about Gummi Bears, which were created first. In1920, Hans Riegel of Bonn, Germany began making Gummi Bears in his kitchen. Hans Riegel first sold Gummy Worms on July 15th, 1920. Demand quickly grew and Hans Riegel formed Haribo company, which eventually went on to market Gummi Worms around the World. American candy manufacturer Trolli created Gummi Worms which hit the market on July 15th, 1981. Gummi Worms were intended to be a shock factor to parents. At its’ inception, Gummy Worms succeeded for both kids and adults. But, that didn’t stop people from absolutely loving Gummi Worms and the Trolli company was sold to Kraft Foods in 2004
How to Celebrate Gummi Worm Day
To celebrate this holiday enjoy Gummi Worms in any manner you prefer. We encourage you to have fun with Gummi Worms, and make a dessert or snack where Gumi Worms are inside or on top of the snack.
History and Origin of Gummi Worm Day
While much is known about Gummi Bears and Gummi Worms, we know little about who created this holiday, why, or when. Based upon our historical research, this holiday first appeared in 2013 and we found no reference as to who created this holiday.
This holiday was not created as a “National” day but a couple websites refer to “National Gummi Bear Day”. However, this is not the title we found on the earliest recordings of this holiday. Neither the U.S. Congress, nor any President of the United States has proclaimed today to be National Gummi Bear Day.
National Give Something Away Day
Be a Giver because today is National Give Something Away Day which definitely not a day for Pack Rats but a selfless day. Which encourages us to help others and brighten up their day through the simple act of giving.
It’s far better to give than to receive and you can consider this to be the theme for this holiday. On National Give Something Away Day, let’s all take the time to take a look at the many things we have, with an eye towards giving things away to those in need.
Today is a perfect day to de-clutter. Cleaning out a closet, or drawer. Look around your attic, or garage, and shed things you just don’t use or need anymore. If you haven’t seen or used an item in over a year, chances are you’ll never need it again and you won’t miss those items. Now, think about who could use the things you plan on giving away but no junk please. It’s important that the items are in good condition and will be appreciated by the recipient.
In addition to giving away things you no longer want or need, you can also participate in this holiday by volunteering your time to an important cause. In this case, you’re giving away your precious, invaluable time.
As you participate in this holiday, you will feel good about what you’re doing and, your house will be less cluttered!
The History and Origin of National Give Something Away Day:
This holiday was created on July 15th, 2015 by Linda Eaton Hall-Fulcher, a self proclaimed giver. The objective of this holiday is to brighten up someone’s life by giving them something you no longer need, that they could use.
This is not a true “National” day. Neither the U.S. Congress, nor the President of the United States has proclaimed today National Give Away Something Day.
Today is Tapioca Pudding Day a a dessert, for a hot Summer day.
Do you know what is odd about this holiday? A fair number of people in the population, have no idea what Tapioca Pudding is. Go ahead, and do your own survey, and you will see what we mean. The most popular flavors of Pudding are Vanilla or Chocolate. Did you know Tapioca rates a distant third?
You know what to do on this holiday, don’t you!? Eat Tapioca Pudding. Whether or not you’ve had it before, Tapioca Pudding is good treat for any day.
Tapioca is the Starch from a Cassava Root and this Starch forms the soft, tiny balls in the Pudding giving Tapioca Pudding a unique texture.
Thank you,
