I wanted to bring you our series sharing Unique Holidays: February 11th, 2022, before Charlie and I get to work on his schoolwork. I would like to ask you to take a look at the Holidays being celebrated today and let me know which Holiday you most want to celebrate and why.
Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day– always held on February 11th.
Don’t tell the cow, but I just spilled some milk.
Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk Day is in recognition that everyone spills a little Milk now and then. It’s a day to be optimistic, think positive, and to find something good in everything that happens. As the song says: Don’t Worry, be Happy!
Today is a day to recognize that things happen. And, when it does, don’t worry, take a positive attitude and fix it, or get past it.
You should participate in “Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day” with an optimistic attitude.
Make a Friend Day– always on February 11th
I have a question for you. Do you have enough friends? The answer should be no. No matter how many friends we have, more of friends increases our wealth. Because friends are one of life’s valuable assets and you can’t have too many friends.
Make a Friend Day is a great opportunity to do something to make a new friend. Making a new friend can be easier to do than you think. There must be a gazillion ways to make new friends. Smiling and just being friendly or helpful. can always help you make a new friend.
Spend “Make a Friend Day” just being friendly, and by doing nice things for others.
National Inventors Day– always on February 11th.
On February 11, 1983, U.S. President Ronald Reagan declared this day to be National Inventors Day. The date was selected, as Thomas Alva Edison, the greatest inventor in U.S. History, was born on this day in 1847 in Milan, Ohio. While Edison was perhaps best known for inventing the light bulb, Thomas Alva Edison, held over 1,000 patents!
National Inventors Day honors Thomas Edison and all inventors, recognizing the enormous impact inventions have on technology, industry, and society worldwide. Just think about all the inventions, and the resulting new products, that you have seen in your lifetime. It readily gives us an appreciation for the inventors, that created these things.
On National Inventors Day, spend a few minutes to appreciate inventors, whatever their field.
White T-Shirt Day– always held on February 11th.
White T Shirt Day honors the men and women who participated in a sitdown strike at General Motors in 1937. These autoworkers helped the United Auto Workers (UAW) Union to become the sole bargaining agent for General Motors Autoworkers. The strike ended on this day in 1937.
According to the UAW’s website, the traditions of White Shirt Day are simple:
- Everyone must wear a white shirt or blouse
- Your white shirt must not get dirtier than your boss’s shirt
- Safety and work rules must be followed.
Somewhere along the way, this day evolved into White T-Shirt Day for some people. Except for UAW workers and their families, this UAW event was probably lost or forgotten. Those who chanced across reference to White Shirt Day, most likely created their own version of this Holiday, giving birth to the term White T-Shirt Day.
Please wear a white shirt today and honor UAW workers, along with their accomplishments.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
