Welcome to our series featuring Unique Holidays: December 24th, 2022. Would you take a look at the Holidays being celebrated today and let me know which Holiday you most want to celebrate and why. If I had known today was National Chocolate Day I would have made a Chocolate Cake for Charlie and I.
National Chocolate Day– always observed on December 24th
Chocoholics rejoice again because this is the second “Chocolate” holiday this month. Aren’t you lucky!? We hope that you haven’t quite had your fill of Chocolate and sweets during the holidays. Today is National Chocolate Day which falls on Christmas Eve. We’ve been eating Christmas Cookies and Candy all month. What’s a little more Sugar to amp us up while Santa flies around?
As we researched National Chocolate Day, we were a bit perplexed. Most of us have been enjoying Chocolate all month long. Due to all of the holiday parties having Chocolate Candies, Cookies, and other treats. Christmas get-togethers and Christmas stockings have plenty of Chocolate. Wherever you go this month, Chocolate of some kind has been less than an arm’s length away.
Equally confusing is the fact that National Chocolate Anything Day occurs earlier in the month. We wonder why there are two practically identical holidays so close together. Then the answer dawned on us Chocoholics would have made this Holiday! If you count yourself in this group, which we hope you do, then you will agree that every day should be National Chocolate Day!
Don’t stay up satisfying your Chocolate cravings, because Santa Claus will soon visit you..

History and Origin of National Chocolate Day
We researched National Chocolate Day in the early 2020s and again in the 2020s. Despite our love of Chocolate, and our extensive research, we didn’t discover any factual content on National Chocolate Day. We have little doubt the Candy industry or a confectioner created National Chocolate Day.
There was some reference to National Chocolate Day as a “National Holiday” but we found no congressional records or presidential proclamation.
Eggnog, also known as Egg Milk Punch when prepared as an Alcoholic drink, is a rich and creamy dairy beverage basically made by mixing Cream, Milk, Sugar, and Whipped Eggs to create a frothy texture. Liquor is optional. Once prepared, Egg Nog is served chilled.
The origins of Egg Nog are highly debated, as well as the primary ingredients used for Egggnog. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word ‘Nog’ was used to describe a type of strong Beer brewed in East Anglia, England. Others argue that Eggnog was developed as a beverage in Medieval Europe, using piping hot Milk.
The first time the term was printed was in the March 26th issue of the “New-Jersey Journal” in 1788, referring to a man enjoying a glass of Eggnog. Again, there is no consensus on how Eggnog got its name. One theory suggests that Eggnog was first named ‘Grog’, eventually evolving to ‘Eggnog.’ Other sources claim that ‘Nog’ was used in the Old English vocabulary for a strong Ale. Essentially, this means that Egg and Nog is a nod to any drink containing Eggs and Alcohol.
Eggnog could possibly also have been a spin-off of the once-popular drink enjoyed by the British called Posset. Made using curdled Milk mixed with Wine,Posset was often used for medicinal purposes. Later, in the 16th Century, Cream and a Citrus base were added to the ingredients.
