Welcome to our series sharing Unique Holidays: August 27th, 2021. I would like to ask you to take a look at the Holidays being celebrated today and let me know which one you most want to celebrate and why.
For me and Charlie we think we will participate in both Race Your Mouse Day and World Daffodil Day because my mom passed away from Cancer. David said he will celebrate the same Holidays with us.
As for Stuffed Green Bell Pepper Day all of use will pass because we don’t eat any kind of Bell Pepper but I do remember my mom and dad eating these for Dinner. Do you eat Stuffed Bell Peppers and why or why not?
Race Your Mouse Day – but we are not sure what kind of “mouse”
Race Your Mouse Day is today so, rev up your Mouse, and let the race begin although I will set this Holiday out if were talking about a live Mouse because I can’t stand them. How about you?
Wait a second… what kind of Mouse are we talking about? Is it the Computer Mouse, and we’re supposed to race it around the Mouse Pad?
Well, the folks at Wellcat.com, who created this Holiday, want you to race your Mouse around the Icons on your Screen. They suggest you do so while waiting for “whatever it is you’re waiting for to come up on the screen”.
Let the race begin…………Happy Race Your Mouse Day!!

Stuffed Green Bell Peppers Day
Did you know the Author of Holiday is an avid Gardener. He loves Sweet, Green, Bell Peppers (and other Peppers for that matter). Which means he also loves Stuffed Peppers.
In late August, these sweet garden treats are ripening far faster than they can be consumed. Therefore, it only stands to reason that August 28 should forever be declared Stuffed Green Bell Peppers Day.
Stuffed Green Bell Peppers Day is a fun Holiday to celebrate and participate in. On Stuffed Green Bell Peppers Day, make plans to have Stuffed Peppers for lunch and/or dinner.
If you enjoy cooking, then this can be a really fun day and you can make your own Stuffed Peppers which are quick and easy to make. There are many recipe variations.
But, the most popular recipe contains just five ingredients: Sweet Bell Peppers, Ground Beef, Rice, Onions and a Sauce (usually Tomato Soup/ Sauce). There’s no need for extra Salt or Black Pepper because Stuffed Peppers are perfect without it.
Did You Know? Peppers are one of the most popular Plants to grow in the Vegetable Garden. Of the dozens of varieties of Hot and Sweet Peppers, Sweet Green Bell Peppers are by far the most popular.
The History and Origin of Stuffed Green Bell Peppers Day:
This Holiday was created in 2019 by Bob Matthews, Author of HolidaInsights.com
According to Matthews “When you put together a love of Gardening, Cooking, Sweet Bell Peppers, the creation of Stuffed Green Bell Peppers Day is born.
Recipe for Stuffed Bell Peppers:
Ingredients
- 4 large Bell Peppers (any color)
- 1lb lean (at least 80%) Ground Beef
- 2 tablespoons Chopped Onion
- 1 cup cooked Rice
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 Clove Garlic, finely chopped
- 1 can (15 oz) Muir Glen™ Organic Tomato Sauce
- 3/4 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese (3 oz)
- 1. Heat oven to 350°F.
- 2. Cut a thin slice from stem end of each Bell Pepper to remove the top of the Pepper. Remove the seeds and membranes; rinse the Peppers. If necessary, cut a thin slice from the bottom of each Pepper so they stand up straight. In a 4-quart Dutch Oven, add enough Water to cover the Peppers. Heat to boiling; add Peppers. Cook about 2 minutes; drain.
- 3. In 10-inch skillet, cook Beef and Onion over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until Beef is brown; drain. Stir in Rice, Salt, Garlic and 1 cup of the Tomato Sauce; cook until hot.
- 4. Stuff Peppers with Beef mixture. Stand Peppers upright in ungreased 8-inch square glass baking dish. Pour remaining Tomato Sauce over the Peppers.
- 5. Cover tightly with Foil. Bake 10 minutes. Uncover and bake about 15 minutes longer or until Peppers are tender. Sprinkle with Cheese.
World Daffodil Day – date varies
Today is World Daffodil Day which is held on a wide range of dates in the World, National, and Local Level. There is definitely no Consensus on a common date. And that’s okay, as the goals are the same.
Whether you are commemorating World Daffodil Day today, or any other Daffodil Day in any Country or Locality, the goals are critical and vital. Daffodil Days are held to raise the awareness of Cancer and how to avoid it.
Other goals of World Daffodil Day, are to raise funds for Cancer Research, raise Public Education and Awareness, and to help those affected by this deadly and devastating disease.
Why are Daffodils a symbol in the fight against cancer it’s because Daffodils are a worldwide symbol of life. Did you know this because I didn’t.
In some way and at some time, Cancer touches everyone in the entire world. Chances are you or someone you love will have Cancer at sometime in their lives and from my family I can agree with this.
We all certainly know many people who have or had Cancer. All over the Globe, there are Cancer Societies and groups organized to help in the fight against Cancer, and to find a cure. We strongly encourage you to become active in the fight and a contribution… giving what you can.
The History and Origin of Daffodil Day:
We traced a wide variety of Daffodil Day events, dating back at least to 1990. As for World Daffodil Day, we did not find the originator, or any information about when it began.
We found reference to “National” Daffodil Day in New Zealand and Australia but we didn’t find a Presidential Proclamation or Act of Congress for Daffodil Day.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
