May 31
Memorial Day last Monday of month
Memorial Day is officially celebrated on the last Monday during the month of May and the day is dedicated to service men and women who gave their lives for the Freedom of our Country.
Memorial Day is also a time to remember loved ones who have passed away. The roots of Memorial Day observance, goes back to 1865 and the end of the Civil War.
The ultimate sacrifice made by millions of U.S. service men and women is perhaps best exemplified by Nathan Hale as he was about to be executed by the British for spying for the Continental Army when he said “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”
Memorial Day was traditionally held on the 30th of May. In 1971, Congress changed it to the last Monday, in order to afford a three day holiday weekend.
Regardless of the date, we encourage you to follow the Memorial Day tradition: attend a Parade, and visit a Cemetery to honor and remember our serviceman. Take time to remember lost loved ones in whatever way you feel appropriate.
Memorial Day was first called Decoration Day which was changed to Memorial Day in 1882.
Memorial Day also marks the beginning of the Gardening and Summer Seasons, even though Summer will not occur until a few weeks later. This day usually includes the first family picnic of the year
National Macaroon Day honors the Macaroon, a Flourless Cookie. It is popular among the Jewish community, especially during Passover, when Jews can not cook with Flour. But, the popularity of the Macaroon doesn’t stop there its enjoyed around the world.
Macaroons are made from ground Nuts and leavened Egg Whites. Coconut and Potato Starch is common in Macaroon recipes. Macaroons were believed to have been first made in an Italian Monastery in 1792. While Monks are well known for their vows of silence, they just couldn’t keep quiet about this tasty treat.

World No Tobacco Day brings awareness of the Health issues and dependency issues related to tobacco use. World No Tobacco Day stresses the importance of making people all over the world aware of the health dangers of using Tobacco and it also stresses the addictive nature of Tobacco use.
According to the World Health Organization’s website: The Member States of the World Health Organization created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the Tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes.
In 1987, the World Health Assembly passed Resolution WHA40.38, calling for 7 April 1988 to be a “a world no-smoking day.” In 1988, Resolution WHA42.19 was passed, calling for the celebration of World No Tobacco Day, every year on 31 May.
