(Sponsored) To the Survivors: One Man’s Journey as a Rape Crisis Counselor with True Stories of Sexual Violence by Robert Uttaro (Author) is a book I read this week but it does have some content that may bother people so please take this into consideration before checking out the book but don’t let that stop you from reading the book. As a child my sister was sexually abused by my brother and also our Cousin. I was lucky because even thought my brother asked inappropriate questions and did something that was unacceptable once that was as far as it went with me and he never did anything to my daughter or my nephew who he used to keep at times. Thank the LORD.

Seeing how my sister still struggles from this abuse and not knowing if my mom actually knew what was happening or if my brother did anything to my mom I choose to read To the Survivors: One Man’s Journey as a Rape Crisis Counselor with True Stories of Sexual Violence to help me understand what my sister might have gone through.

To the Survivors: One Man’s Journey as a Rape Crisis Counselor with True Stories of Sexual Violence is told by an O & E volunteer for a rape crisis center, Bobby helps survivors, family and friends of survivors and bring awareness and resources to them and communities he speaks in. Bobby also helps volunteer speakers to tell their stories in this story.

When my sister was growing up RAPE wasn’t talked about and no, one heard of rape counselors so I plan on sharing this book with everyone I know so it may help others dealing with this tragedy. If hearing of sexual assault in graphic detail is triggering, you may need to read To the Survivors: One Man’s Journey as a Rape Crisis Counselor with True Stories of Sexual Violence with the help of someone you trust.

The stories in this book are heartbreaking, but their messages are powerful and the stories needed to be told not only to help someone with rape but to help the person who was raped deal in a positive way. I enjoyed learning how the victims have turned a horrible experience into something to help other survivors is a true Godsend.

About the book: Robert Uttaro (Author)

To the Survivors is about one man’s journey as a rape crisis counselor with true stories of sexual violence shared by survivors in their own words. Gently and beautifully constructed, To the Survivors is moving, tender, sharp, and piercingly true all at once. Readers will encounter uncensored written stories, poems, and interviews from women and men who have experienced rape and sexual assault, plus the advocate-author voice that weaves their experiences together. The survivors are diverse in age, gender, and ethnicity, yet each gives a similarly raw and heartfelt account of his or her victimization and recovery. The authenticity and vulnerability with which survivors speak resonates profoundly. But this book is not just for survivors of sexual violence. Robert Uttaro believes anyone can benefit from the words in these pages, rape survivor or not.
