I wanted to let you know Thurs. Jan. 30: Clues, Catapults, Relays and Code-Breaking: Capture the STEM Olympics in Brooklyn. If my family was closer I would have taken Charlie. If your #homeschooling your students and in Brooklyn I hope you attend.
WHEN: Thursday, January 30 from 9:30 am to 11 am
WHERE: 401 97th Street – Bay Ridge
St. Patrick Catholic Academy in Brooklyn will host a STEM Olympics on Thursday, January 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The school is located at 401 97th Street in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades will be part of mixed-grade teams of four, competing in different STEM obstacles to win medals.
One of the highlights of the event will be a Reverse Escape Room. Instead of finding clues to escape a room, the students in grades 6-8 will have to solve math problems to break a code to find a key to get into a locked box.
The three other tasks to be completed are building a catapult, a relay race with scooters and constructing a building with straws and twist ties.
“STEM is considered the building block to student success, but that doesn’t mean that learning can’t be fun and competitive,” says Kathy Curatolo, principal at St. Patrick Catholic Academy.
