As we move into the New Year I wanted to share a book I received for a review which is The Wisdom of Compassion: Stories of Remarkable Encounters and Timeless Insights by Victor Chan (Author), H. H. Dalai Lama (Author).
When you see the cover of The Wisdom of Compassion: Stories of Remarkable Encounters and Timeless Insights and read the title you might think this is a religious book but its so much more than that. Most everyone has heard of the Dali Lama but may not know what all he has done or how he has helped others which is why I will have Charlie read the book in his Homeschool Reading Class this year.
Then I want to heart if David and Charlie agree with others that the Dali/Lama is the greatest spiritual leader in our time. Do you think so? Victor Chan shares a series of encounters over a few years showing how compassionate service plays out in on the world with other teachers to children.
The book opened a new door to enter into the living Buddha nature that awakens our own journey of compassion. For a lot of people the writing of the Dalai Lama are food for the starving. His teachings are profound. Before I read the book I thought it would be all about one religion but that isn’t the case its bout giving guidance for every person on Earth while teaching how to treat other people. I
If we lived our lives like the Dali Lama does then everyone could learn to live with compassion and happiness. Everyone would respect everyone and the world would be a much better place. The Dali Lama of hate and prejudices that would cease to exist if we choose to live by his words and we treated everyone as family.
The Wisdom of Compassion: Stories of Remarkable Encounters and Timeless Insights teaches us to embrace our life with love and kindness then we will receive love and kindness in return. No, matter how hard it might be you should be patient, and others will learn to be as well. As you finish reading the book don’t forget to visit his web site where he has live lectures for us to listen to.
Inside the book:
The Wisdom of Compassion offers rare insights into the Dalai Lama’s life and his efforts to translate compassion into action through deeply engaging, behind-the-scene stories about his interactions with remarkable people from all walks of life.
This is the Dalai Lama at his most human, and most humane. We see how he approaches the world with playfulness, optimism, and a profound empathy for the suffering of others. Through his own conduct, he shows us the tangible benefits of practicing kindness, forgiveness and compassion. And he demonstrates that opening our hearts and minds to others is the surest path to true happiness.
The Wisdom of Compassion is an intensely personal portrait of the Dalai Lama. It recounts the story of his friendship with a blind Irishman, how they first met and how in later meetings the Dalai Lama comes to call him his one and only hero. It explores the Dalai Lama’s collaboration with a neuroscientist and how it results in significant discoveries about the human brain. It also brings to life poignant accounts of his uncommon encounters with a little beggar girl, a disabled boy in a critical care ward, a man who trains grandmothers to become solar engineers, and many others.
The Dalai Lama’s wisdom principles revolve around the practical application of compassion. Enhanced by his seven decades of practice and elucidated through captivating anecdotes of his own experiences, they will help readers lead more fulfilling lives. As the Dalai Lama has written many years ago: if you want others to be happy, practice compassion; if you want yourself to be happy, practice compassion.
Thank you,
