The things that keep children entertained amaze me!!

The things that keep children entertained amaze me!! The other day, we went to the mall to look around and all Charlie wanted to do was ride the escalator. Although if I tell the truth, I loved riding the Escalator as a child. Only I  had one thing I enjoyed more than the escalator, and that was on Friday afternoons when my dad would get home from work, and we would all get on the bus and go Downtown Fort Worth.

Because our parents would allow us to ride the Subway underneath Lenords Department Store and there was a dinner/ restaurant inside Lenords. Every Friday my grandfather would take me inside and order me Tatar Tots, and I have always loved Tatar Tots and still do. I would eat them every day if it were possible as they remind me of my childhood.

I never wanted to get off the Subway as a child, so when Suzzane was a child I used to take her downtown, and we would spend hours riding the Subway as it was free and gave us something to do. Once we finished Suzzane and I would catch the City Bus and ride it all over town.

Suzzane loved riding the City Bus the T so we would get on early in the morning and ride from one side of the city to the other side of town. Then get off and go shopping and have lunch and get back on the bus and ride again across town and go home.

When I wasn’t with my daughter, I would spend time with my nephew when he was little, and he was into movies so there would be Saturdays I would watch David while his mom worked. We would go to Movies 8 when it opened and stay and watch movies until his mom would get off at 9. The only time we would leave was to walk back across the street to have lunch with my mom and his mom at Luby’s Cafeteria.

I can’t wait until my niece and nephew get a little older, and we can find unique things to do together that we never do with anyone else and will help them remember me even if I am not around.

I would like to ask you what do you do with your children that you haven’t done with anyone else? Why did you do this with them and do you still do these things with them?

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
