I knew when David would see me reading The Story of Gumluck the Wizard, Book One he would want to read the story. Then I knew David might talk Charlie into reading this story with him. I sat down and read the book and there were words I hadn’t heard of. If Charlie and I were still Homeschooling full time we could have used these words in our Homeschool Spelling Class.
Charlie. I can read the book in our Homeschool Reading Class and they we can discuss the book in our Homeschool Language Art Class.. Charlie will also like the illustrations and I can see Charlie redrawing these pictures in his Art Cass. The Story of Gumluck The Wizard is a chapter book which will allow us to read a chapter a day.
This story begins on Monday and ends on Monday we can read each day of the week on that day and act like we are in the storyline which will catch you on the edge of your seat. This story is told through told through a Raven which was fun. Charlie and I can go outside and watch for Birds that are mentioned in the book this week and take a walk to the Park.
Inside this story is the Truth Fairy and I liked the Truth Fairy and how the people talked about Gumluck who didn’t think it was him they were talking about. You should remember to tell others thank you like Gumluck kept reminding people. Inside The Story of Gumluck The Wizard you will learn how important friends are and why we all need friends.
I believe The Story of Gumluck The Wizard is for Middle Age Children unless you take the time to explain things to younger children who would enjoy this story as well. Charlie is 16 and he said he wouldn’t mind reading the entire series with David. I and I wouldn’t either. I believe The Story of Gumluck The Wizard should be in school libraries.
About the book: Gumluck the Wizard, the star of a new chapter book series by the inimitable Adam Rex!
Gumluck the Wizard is a story about magic, if you like that kind of thing. It is also a story about a Ghost with amnesia, an unpopular Fairy, an ungrateful little Town, and an extremely wise and helpful Raven (who happens to be a pretty talented storyteller). But mostly, it is about a friendly little Wizard who lives inside a big Hill and really, really, really wants to be a hero. His name is Gumuck and he is a bumbling noodlehead.
In this tall tale about a short wizard, celebrated author Adam Rex proves once and for all that the biggest heroes often come in the smallest nightgowns.
Perfect for: • Fans of Adam Rex
• Parents and grandparents seeking funny children’s book series
• Teachers and librarians looking for engaging children’s fantasy and magic books
• Anyone looking for fantasy chapter books
• Readers who enjoy Chris Colfer’s A Tale of Magic, the Unicorn Academy series, and Magic Tree House books
Meet the Author: Adam Rex
Adam Rex grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, the middle of three children. He now lives in Tucson with his physicist wife Marie.
His picture book FRANKENSTEIN MAKES A SANDWICH, a collection of stories about monsters and their problems, was a New York Times Bestseller. 2007 saw the release of his first novel, THE TRUE MEANING OF SMEKDAY.
Garlic and crosses are useless against Adam. Sunlight has been shown to be at least moderately effective. A silver bullet does the trick. Pretty much any bullet, really.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
