The Principal and Charlie

Yesterday,  everyone knows Charlie had to go speak to the principal as he missed a make up test. As well as for the children bullying Charlie. So,  I was a nervous wreak all day long. I felt like the worst mom ever when I left Charlie at school as he was trying not to cry.

Since, I wasn’t sure what kind of mood Charlie would be in yesterday after school I was surprised when David picked Charlie up and he was smiling and joking with David.

I waited to see if Charlie would tell us about his day as I didn’t want to bring up something that was hurtful. Or start a fight with Charlie if he didn’t want to talk about the things that had happened that day. So we left the school to run a errand and as we drove I asked Charlie what homework he had.

We discussed his homework and what they did in Aspire. Which lead me to asking Charlie what they had for lunch. As well as what he did in a couple classes. As I like hearing what Charlie  learns so I can help him if he has questions.

As we talked Charlie finally opened up and said  at lunch the principal came and talked to me about what was happening and I let him know which boys was being mean. Mr. Williams called the boys  and asked them why. Each one apologized and it isn’t supposed to happen again if it does there parents will be called.

The nice thing was the Mr. Williams let Charlie know as a boy he was treated the same way in school. Only he didn’t have anyone to talk to about it. So he is glad he and Charlie can share what Charlie is going through as no, child should be treated that way ever.

Once Charlie was done telling me about this I waited to see if he would say anything else as I was wondering about the math test Charlie missed. So finally  says they are taking another math test  in school today andif he doesn’t pass it they will do a make up test.

Mrs. Kayla let Charlie know if he misses this make up test he will not be given another chance to make it up. I asked Charlie how this made him feel and he said scared but that it is fair. Charlie  says he will do everything in his power to make it to the make up test if he has to go.

Once Charlie was finished talking about the test,  David asked him about disrespecting Mrs. Kayla and Charlie says the principal made him apologize and if it happens again he will be taken out of Mrs. Kayla’s room and have to do his work in the office.

I asked Charlie how this made him feel and he says he understands and that it is fair. But he will try his best to do better as being a teacher isn’t easy. So now we all know this only happened yesterday and things can change at any time. But he did come home with a E and a Gold Star.

So once again I am fully relying on God and Charlie to change things and for the kids and Charlie to get along. As well as Charlie finishing his work on time and completing his test. And being responsible enough to show up for his make up test if he  has to take one.

As a parent one of the hardest things I had to tell  Charlie was  I can’t take the test for you nor can I fight the battles with you with the other children. But I can help you work out solutions to the problems and that is why you have a counselor and a principal.

Which I still think Charlie needs to talk to the counselor as well about his feelings. As he didn’t talk to the principal about not wanting to live here and wanting other parents and that he is stupid. Or that he has been getting frustrated and tearing things up as well as hitting himself. As we all know he isn’t stupid. So I have let Charlie know  bottling up these feelings isn’t good. So this morning I will be calling the school to remind them he needs to see the counselor as soon as possible.
So once again Please Pray not only for Charlie but his friends, the school staff and David and I as we work out ways to help our son. As we love him more than life itself but he needs help and he needs it now.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
