The Jules Verne Prophecy

Children's Book Reviews

The Jules Verne Prophecy by Larry Schwartz and Iva- Marie Palmer a children’s book I received in exchange for this review which Charlie and I will be using as part of our Homeschool Reading Class.

The Jules Verne Prophecy is a fun and adventurous story for Middle Schoolers although I can see younger children whose parents read the story to them would enjoy along with adults reading. Iwas excited to find out the Author created a leading girl character who is even better than the boys at skateboarding, cracking secret codes and solving mysteries which reminded me of my niece Lily who likes to beat her brother Jason and my son Charlie at everything she does.

The nonstop action and fun you will learn about in the story makes The Jules Verne Prophecy hard to put it down. More than once I wish I could have met the main character and joined her on adventures or activities she did including Skateboarding. Although, if you know me, I would’ve ended up with a broken leg. Just ask David and Charlie if you don’t believe me.

Larry Schwartz and Iva- Marie Palmer did a fantastic job-sharing various thing about Jules Verne while keeping the information appropriate for the age group The Jules Verne Prophecy targets. Like a lot of people, I’ve never been to Paris which was one of Suzzane’s dreams and even Charlie would like to go one day. If we didn’t have to fly, I would go as well but that isn’t happening because I’m never getting on a plane. How about you?

I do not speak French, although French is one language Charlie will be studying in his Homeschool Language Arts Class. In the story they use French phrases which I didn’t feel lost when they were used in the story. The chapters are nice and short, and you can assign a couple chapters a night making The Jules Verne Prophecy last a while. Unless your like Charlie and sneak the book into bed with you. Unlike a lot of chapter books the Author includied illustrations making the story even more fun as we could see what was happening and also use the pictures to create our own stories.

About:

When a mysterious book by the legendary writer Jules Verne falls into the hands of three unlikely friends, it sets off a treasure hunt like no other—get ready for a modern-day reimagining of The Goonies!

Owen Godfrey is spending his Summer in Paris studying Science fiction writer Jules Verne, the brilliant mind behind  Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in Eighty Days. When Owen and his new friends find what appears to be a dusty copy of Verne’s collected works in an old bookshop, they’re intrigued by the hidden codes written inside.

As one clue leads to another, the trio gets swept up in an epic treasure hunt spanning the City—from the depths of the catacombs to the top of the Eiffel Tower, and by way of skateboard, boat, car, and even a hot air balloon!  But they quickly realize they’re not the only ones searching for the hidden riches, and that there are others who will stop at nothing to get to them first. This fast-paced larger-than-life adventure is filled with action, high stakes, and three friends who are dead set on cracking the Jules Verne mystery.
