Charlie has been balking at reading anything for Homeschool the past couple weeks so I needed to pull out the big guns. I told David and Charlie from 6 to 6:30 every evening all Electronics would be turned off and they would have to find something to read each evening. I let them know it could be a book, board games which we could play together.

The first week they picked out a board game to play together. Then last week I let them know I was going to read a book. Charlie and David said they didn’t have anything they wanted to read. I handed them my Kindle and told them to browse through my list of books. Charlie and David said The Inside Out Worlds: Visions of Strange looked interesting.

I let Charlie and David know this could be considered a Science Fiction book and there was magic inside. They agreed to read the book together. I loved hearing them discuss what was happening and before I knew it I found myself drawn into the story. There is 10 stories inside the book which we all took turns reading to each other bringing us closer together.

This is a book that at times didn’t make sense but the more we read the more drawn into the story we found ourselves. Some of the book was hard for Charlie and David to read and parts of it we had to re-read and stop and discuss what we read so Charlie could understand what was happening because its almost like a Poem. In the end we enjoyed the story and may re-read it in the future to pick up on parts we missed or I missed helping Charlie and David read the story.

About the book:

With an undercurrent of magic and subversion in worlds like our own – emerges a fascinating, twisted, and completely captivating collection of ten stories.

A millenia-old vampire desperate to find a way to feed on humans who’ve exchanged their flesh for robotic bodies. A little girl who can see the embodiment of Death himself. An antisocial loner has prophetic dreams of an apocalyptic flood. A new social media platform that can leech life right out of you.

Along with other twisted tales, The Inside Out Worlds stretches the bounds of our reality.

From the author of The Four Suitors comes a delightfully dark collection of short stories. Sophie Jupillat Posey takes you on a journey into dystopian science fiction worlds and twisted landscapes of magical realism. With a fascination to explore the more vulnerable dark parts of the human psyche, Posey weaves stories full of dread with dashes of warm optimism.

Dive into these inside out worlds, and find a reason to hope even in the darkest hour
