The Aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

The past two weeks have been horrible for a lot of people. I just sit and Pray as I watch the devastation on TV. As they are living through Hurricane Harvey which destroyed Houston, Texas and surrendering Towns. The more we heard about it the more messages I was receiving from friends asking if I was close to it or if we was okay.

So this morning after toying with this post all week and trying to decided to sit down and write about Harvey or not I knew I needed to. Along with the Forest Fires happening. Because the other day I was on Facebook and 2 of my friends texted me to ask if I was okay as they knew I lived in Texas.

I was blown away at there kindness and thinking of others first because who manages the blog called she asked me if I was okay as she knew I live in Texas. As we talked and was fixing to get off the chat she mentioned they had to be evacuated due to the Storm. Which if I had taken the time to ask about someone else instead of focusing on myself I would have knew that.

So once again no, matter what your going through Please Please Please take the time to ask your friends and family how they are. Because they might be facing something you didn’t know about and could use a kind word or a Prayer. It only takes a second to say I love you, I am here for you and can I help you with something.

So this morning I would like to invite you to check Alpana’s story she did about Hurricane Harvey as it will make you think about things differently. “Harvey Ended with Lovely Sunshine And Beautiful Smiles.”  would you have thought that was possible after all the devastation that Houston has faced? Its because God doesn’t give us more than we can handle.

The second friend who reached out to me was Debra Cufaude who asked me if I was ok. Once again because I let life get in the way I didn’t keep in contact with Debra the way I should have. As we used to speak almost daily and its been about a year since we talked. But she was there for me this week and showed it just by asking if I was ok.

As Debra and I spoke I learned she had to shut her online business down to something happening online and if I had spoken to here the way I used to I could have helped her through this. As we ended our conversation she mentioned she was close to the Forest Fires happening and they had been giving her trouble breathing. But once again I didn’t think to ask how she was as I was to busy telling her stores here was running out of gas and groceries.

I must be a turtle and have my head buried in the sand because there are much much more important things than that as this moment. as I watch friends collecting donations and loading up trucks to take items to Houston to help out. So this morning I would like to apologize to anyone I offended and I apologize if I hadn’t checked on you.

This morning as I sit in my home and watch Charlie sleeping on the couch looking out the door at the beautiful trees and there is a nice breath I thank God for all my friends and family and yes, I am okay. I just Pray you are and we have room here if you need somewhere to stay. May God continue to protect you always.

Now, I am off to let another friend know I am fine and I appreciate her checking on me. Please do the same for your friends and family. If your not sure where someone lives just ask them. Because Texas is a huge State and even though you think they might not have been affected they might have been. Because even though I have lived in Dallas/ Fort Worth all my life I still don’t know all the little towns people are talking about and where they may or may not be.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates

  1. Natural calamaties and disasters bring the best out in peeps; hold onto your strengths and let go of the guilt; you are doing what you can do best!! Pray y ou all stay safe and this blows over soon to let people resume life in a normal sens eof the word!

  2. The weather has just been so strange and alarming lately. We have been impacted a lot by the forest fires here in Seattle, experiencing ash showering down upon us. Besides Texas, now Florida is being hit hard, and I just watch a video on CNN showing how the Caribbean island of Barbuda has had 95% of it’s property destroyed. It’s awful, and it is so easy to get caught up in our own lives and not even take notice of what is going on. I just checked on my friend this afternoon…. Hopefully they will be okay in Floriday.
