New research shows white and green leading nursery color trends in the US, with parents increasingly choosing calming, nature-inspired tones

Key Findings:

  • New study by nursery specialists Oilo Studio reveals the USA’s most popular nursery colors for 2025 based on search data
  • White tops the list as the most popular nursery color in the US, with green and blue completing the top three
  • Nursery expert explains how nature-inspired tones can create calming environments while still allowing for personalization

Staring at paint swatches while your baby bump grows or your adoption date approaches? You’re not alone! Choosing the perfect nursery color is one of the most exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) decisions for expecting parents. After all, this is the space where your little one will spend their first years—shouldn’t it be just perfect?

“Parents often tell me they feel stuck between what’s trendy, what they personally love, and what might be best for their baby,” says Annalisa Thomas, a nursery expert at Oilo Studio, a luxury brand specializing in nursery furniture, bedding, and baby essentials. “The good news is, you don’t have to choose just one path.”

Curious about what colors other parents-to-be are loving right now? Oilo Studio analyzed US search data to find out which nursery colors are trending for 2025. By combining data from Google Keyword Planner and Google Trends, they calculated a “Popularity Score” for each color based on how often Americans searched for these colors in relation to nurseries over the past year.

White and Green: The Dynamic Duo

Surprise! White and green are neck-and-neck as America’s favorite nursery colors, both scoring an identical 69.59 on the popularity scale. While some might think white is playing it safe, it’s actually a smart choice for nurseries.

“White creates this amazing blank canvas that grows with your child,” Thomas explains. “Think about it – you can easily swap out decorations, bedding, or wall art as your baby becomes a toddler and develops their own personality, all without having to repaint the entire room.”

Meanwhile, green’s equally strong showing tells us parents are bringing the outdoors in. From soft sage to bold emerald, green tones create a naturally calming environment that works for any gender.

Nature Is Calling (And Parents Are Answering)

The trend toward natural elements doesn’t stop with basic green. Blue claims the third spot with a score of 63.43, while evergreen comes in fourth at 60.87. Notice a pattern? Parents are clearly drawn to colors that evoke the natural world.

“We’re seeing more parents create nurseries that feel like peaceful little sanctuaries,” Thomas notes. “These nature-inspired colors have been shown to reduce stress and promote better sleep – something every new parent desperately wants!”

Even more intriguing is the presence of clay at sixth place (40.45) and lemon at seventh (39.42). Gone are the days when nurseries were limited to pastel pink and blue. Today’s parents are embracing earthy tones and vibrant accents that stimulate a baby’s developing senses.

Warm Colors Are Having a Moment

Cozy, warm colors are making quite a splash, with rose landing at fifth place with a score of 41.89. Not far behind are golden (eighth place, 38.96) and orange (ninth place, 33.26).

So, what’s going on here? “Many parents are realizing that warm tones create inviting, cheerful spaces that make both babies and visitors feel instantly comfortable,” says Thomas.

And let’s be honest – with the endless parade of midnight feedings and diaper changes ahead, couldn’t we all use a nursery that lifts our spirits?

The appearance of sophisticated shades like clay and golden also suggests parents are thinking beyond babyhood, designing rooms that can transition smoothly as their little ones grow.

Good Old Reliable Cream

Rounding out the top ten is trusty cream with a score of 29.83. Not quite as stark as white but still wonderfully neutral, cream offers warmth while maintaining flexibility.

“Cream is like that reliable friend who gets along with everyone,” Thomas says. “It works with any accent color or theme you can dream up, from woodland creatures to outer space adventures.”

Annalisa Thomas of Oilo Studio commented:

“What I find most fascinating about these trends is how they reflect a broader shift in parenting priorities. Today’s parents aren’t just designing nurseries based on what’s cute or traditional—they’re thinking about creating environments that promote wellbeing for both their baby and themselves.

“Not only are colors like green, blue, and white beautiful, but they’re also functional choices that can actually impact sleep quality and mood. When a newborn is only sleeping for a few hours at a time, anything that might help extend that peaceful slumber is worth considering.

“But here’s what I always tell parents who feel overwhelmed by color choices: there’s no wrong answer. While these trends are helpful guides, the perfect nursery color is ultimately one that makes YOU happy when you walk into the room. After all, you’ll be spending countless hours in that space, especially during those early months.

“If you love bold, dramatic colors like deep navy or forest green, go for it! If soft neutrals make your heart sing, that’s your answer. The best nurseries balance current trends with personal taste and practical considerations.”

Methodology

This study analyzed nursery color trends for 2025 by examining search data over the past 12 months in the United States. Using a comprehensive seed list of nursery-related keywords, including terms like “nursery color trends 2025,” “best nursery colors,” and “gender-neutral nursery colors,” Oilo Studio identified the most searched color options.

The research team utilized data from Google Keyword Planner to determine average monthly search volumes for specific color-related terms such as “Sage Green nursery,” “White nursery,” and “Evergreen nursery.” Additionally, Google Trends data was incorporated to measure relative interest over time.

To calculate the final rankings, they developed a “Popularity Score” that combined search intensity (searches per 1,000,000 people based on 2024 population estimates from the UN Population Division) with interest over time. Search intensity was calculated as (Average Monthly Searches/Population)×1,000,000. The Popularity Score represents the sum of Search Intensity Score and Interest over Time, with colors ranked from highest to lowest score.
