Still I Rise

The Mommies Reviews

This is a review for a novel called Still I Rise. I was sent a copy of Still I Rise The Persistence Of Phenomenal Women in exchange for this review. The thoughts in the review are mine and mine alone.

Teaching Charlie can be hard at times especially when I don’t know what to teach for History and certain events like Women’s History Month. I didn’t even know this Holiday/ event existed until I received a email.

Then I had to search for women for Charlie to study. Using the women in Still I Rise gave me a start on who to study. Once we finished reading Still I Rise and learning about the ladies Charlie understood what we were looking for. Charlie was able to pick other ladies including Rosa Parks.

I enjoyed learning about the ladies inside Still I Rise I hadn’t heard of. I was able to share there stories with my friends and family. I even shared Still I Rise with my friend a teacher to use in her classroom.

Still I Rise: The Persistence of Phenomenal Women by Marlene Wagman-Geller

When Nelson Mandela was imprisoned in South Africa’s brutal Robben Prison, he tirelessly turned to the poem “Invictus,” the inspirational verse by the Victorian William Ernest Henley, penned on the occasion of the amputation of his leg.

Still I Rise takes its title from a work by Maya Angelou and it resonates with the same spirit of an unconquerable soul: a woman who is captain of her fate. Just as “Invictus” brought solace to generations, so does Angelou’s contemporary classic.

Still I Rise embodies the strength of character of the inspiring women profiled within. Each chapter will outline the rise and fall of great women heroes who smashed all obstacles rather than letting all obstacles smash them. Still I Rise offers hope to those undergoing their own Sisyphean struggles.

Intrepid women heroes are the antithesis of the traditional damsels in distress: rather than waiting for the prince, they took salvation into their own hands—and now, they inspire readers like you.
