Sorgho Squad: Chapter #1: From the Ruins Comes Jowar!. Then you will want to check out our review for book two here Sorgho Squad: Chapter #2: The Rumors are True….Introducing, Mashilla! By Nate Blum Art By Jordan Scribner

Like a lot of kids getting Charlie to read for 30 minutes a day is harder than pulling teeth. When I learned about Sorgho Squad: Chapter #1: From the Ruins Comes Jowar! I thought Charlie might actually sit down with David and read the story. Once the books arrived and I saw the cover which reminded me of a comic book I knew Charlie would want to look at the book because the people on the cover remind me of Zombies which fascinates Charlie.

Charlie and I liked learning the story is set in London. There is Alice Atlas a 14-year-old girl who helps the Professor. The Professor believes he found the solution to Global Hunger and Malnutrition along with other problems. The Superhero’s showed people how to use Sorghum. There is a mp of places to visit. Charlie and I can study the locations in our Homeschool Geography/ History Class.

They leave on a adventure to solve the problem starting in Larkana, Pakistan. Can you imagine traveling there? They find a riddle written in Cuneiform’s. Which can be used as part of our Homeschool Spelling Test and the story read in our Science Class. We learn about sustainability. To wake up Jowar they give him water.

Jowar worked in the Indus Valley. They ask Jowar for help, so they go back to the Academy to look for the rest of the Super-Grains. Through the book Charlie learned a little more about farming. We believe this book is for children in upper elementary, but children and adults of all ages can learn from the story. Don’t forget to check out my review for book two here.
