Sinister Refuge is a book David actually enjoyed reading and learning about Human Tracking and the Historical elements and we both agree if my Uncle had been here he would have loved this novel as well. Through the book we follow the author to refugee camps, container ships and brothels, Then the Author introduced us to Lely, a young Syrian girl ready to end her life rather than accept the benefits of life in America if it meant “servicing” the men waiting for her. Making this book moor for adults.

Sinister Refuge at first I thought the book was going to be a tad bit slow but it isn’t if you keep reading. Charlie and I can research the History in the book that left me wanting to know more about the history, War, and camps, and the realities of life in Syria. Which even though I don’t plan on having Charlie read the book we can study Syria in our Homeschool Class when we study States.

Ahe author has chosen to focus more on the fast paced, action packed story of the two hero’s; one a rookie FBI agent and an unusual Syrian translator. I liked hearing about Middle East foods which Charlie and I plan on reasearching and preparing in our Homeschool Cooking Class. Would you like to join us for dinner?

I wish I had the opportunity to visit the Halal Market in suburban Seattle, but I defiantly don’t want to deal with human-trafficking operations but it is something my son should learn about because it always happens. The story takes place inside the war-torn lives of the characters who are teamed up to thwart a human-trafficking network originating in a Syrian refugee camp.

About the book:

A teenage girl has fallen to her death from an elegant condominium in Seattle, leaving behind nothing to identify her except a pair of earrings. After the FBI traces the jewelry to a Syrian refugee camp, rookie agent Russell Boyd and Arabic interpreter Nawar Abboud travel there to search for clues.

At another part of the camp, fourteen-year-old orphan Lely Khayat receives a visitor who promises a better life in America. Adventurous and artistic, she decides to go. She has no idea what will actually be expected of her when she arrives.

Facing killers, bumbling officials, and their own complicated feelings for each other, Boyd and Abboud try to find Lely before it’s too late.

“Rick George is a master of the page-turner!”
