Installing solar panels on your roof is one of the best things you could ever do for your home. While solar panels cost a lot of money, they are a worthwhile investment as the benefits will definitely be worth the costs. If you are a do-it-yourself kind of homeowner, you might be tempted to try and do the installation yourself in order to save money.
However, solar panel installation is not a project you should attempt to DIY if you are not a professional solar installer. There are some home improvement projects that you can DIY, but solar panel installation is not one of them. This article highlights a few reasons why you should hire a professional solar installer check out.
- General safety
Solar panels are usually installed on the roof. Therefore, the installation process involves a lot of climbing and spending a lot of time on the roof. You will need to carry the heavy panels up the roof and walk on the steep surface. This can be very dangerous as a fall from the roof can leave you with serious injuries, and possibly damaged panels. Why risk all this when you can simply hire a Brisbane business that does solar panel installation to do the work for you?
The other point of safety is electrical safety. You will need to connect the solar panels to your home’s electric system for you to be able to use the solar energy generated in your home. If you are not a licensed electrician, you could end up making costly mistakes that could lead to a fire on your property or damage of your electric equipment due to electrical faults caused by faulty wiring. Additionally, most jurisdictions require that all wiring be done by a licensed electrician or solar installer.
- Professional advice
When you work with professional solar installers, they can advise you on how to make the most of your solar system. From their experience and training, they can give you advice on the right solar panels to buy for your home’s power needs. They will also position the solar panels just right to ensure that they get maximum exposure to sunlight. On top of this, they can give you all the information you need on home solar systems so that you can reap maximum benefits from it.
- Specialty equipment
Professional solar installers will come with all the equipment required for the job. If you do it yourself, you might have to improvise, and the job may not be as good as if it was done by professionals. Even if you can hire or buy the equipment, this will be very expensive and beats the whole logic of doing it yourself.
- Warranty coverage
Most solar panels come with a warranty of up to 25 years. However, if you install them yourself, you might not be able to benefit from the warranty as most manufacturers require the installation of the panels to be done by professional and licensed installers for the warranty to be valid.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
For things like that I always say professional. I don’t like the uncertainty or liability is we would do it incorrectly…especially when it’s quite expensive! Good article!
Thank you, Brit and yes, a professional is the best way to go when doing things like this.
I keep thinking about having solar panels fitted but I do think I would use a professional installer. We would have no clue what we were doing and it’s important that a job is done properly for us!
If I do get them in the future they have to be done by a professional because I would be afraid they would leak otherwise.
I will be honest with you I know I would do professional for sure if I do this. I am SO not handy lol! You have sone great points here that I will take note of.
Jeanette I am not handy either and wouldn’t know how to even get started and wouldn’t want to try and figure it out.
I think this is one of those things that a professional should do. Too many variables come into play for overall safety of the person and their home.
I agree with you Bill besides that I would most likely fall off the roof and end up in a doctors office.
I would never try a project like solar panels that has so many specialized needs. I wish my house could get them but it has tree shade on my roof
I think I would rather have the tree shade than Solar Panels. As I like natural light.
I don’t like the look of them but do like the purpose and energy savings/environmental side of them. If we were to do this we would choose professional for the warranty.
The warranty is the key for me and I also don’t like the way they look. But for savings, I might check into it if we owned our home instead of renting.
While my husband and I love our diy projects, I would not want to try to attempt this. I feel like it definitely needs to be installed by an expert. This is something I want done right.
good grief, I don’t care how handy you are this is a job for a professional!!
Great to know. This is something my husband and I discuss often and think about for when we own. We’d love to get solar panels.
My husband is very handy but I would not want him to install our solar panels. This is a huge job and I would want a professional to install it.
I do not have any objection to their aesthetic. I grew up in the northern states and it was never practical, but since I have moved south I am absolutely eye-balling these!
This is a great article. My husband was in construction and I can’t tell you how many times he was called to fix something that wound up costing more because they were trying to save money. Projects like this, leave to the pros
Usually with stuff like this – we leave it to the experts! We’re too scared of doing something wrong or getting injured while trying to do it
When installing solar panels — which nobody in family knows how to do– I will leave it to professionals to make sure it will be installed properly.
