I would like to share a new addition to our Valentines Day Gift Guide 24: Shitty Craft Club: A Club for Gluing Beads to Trash, Talking about Our Feelings, and Making Silly Things by Sam Reece (Author), Lizzie Darden (Photographer), I received a copy of in exchange for this review. For more information on the book check out there press release here.
Being a teacher we have to teach all kinds of classes including a art class but as a teacher we should always admit there is things were not good at to our children. Which is what I did with Charlie when we began our venture to homeschool. One of the things I had to admit was I had no, clue how to do a art class but thanks to books like Shitty Craft Club: A Club for Gluing Beads to Trash, Talking about Our Feelings, and Making Silly Things Charlie and I were able to do projects we never thought we would tackle.
Not only that Charlie and I’ve even ventured out on our own and made our own projects that we’ve came up with and even though a lot of times they’ve been a failure we learned through the author that that is okay and its a part of life to fail. The book has brought us closer together as a family because David has even joined us on shopping trips to purchase craft supplies then he will come home and help us with the crafts.
Through this book Charlie and I’ve been able to decorate our homeschool and my office on a dime which has been a Godsend to my family who is on a budget. Charlie and I keep the book out on our desk so any time we feel like it we can do crafts or invite our friends and family who are visiting to join us in on the crafts we enjoy doing.
The book is pink and I love the cover which is full of fun colors and would make a cute picture. Inside the book is a zigzag ribbon that makes the perfect book marker so we always know where we left off in the book. Charlie has used the book not only for Art Class but reading as she shares stories with us.
I love how the book reminds us to talk about our feelings. The introduction in the front of the book helps me plan lessons for the week. Inside the book is a oath that Charlie and I took. Inside the book is a membership card you will need to feel out as well and before you ask yes, Charlie, David and I all took the oath and signed the card and printed it out.
I love how the author gives us a list of essential supplies we will need which I created a Wish List for and let Charlie hand out to his family who is always asking what Charlie would like for Christmas or his Birthday allowing our craft supply to always grow. The author gives us places to look for crafts which will allow us to go on field trips.
About the book:
Welcome to the Shitty Craft Club! Based on the TikTok sensation by comedian Sam Reece, Shitty Craft Club is an empowering guide to creativity, embracing chaos, and finding inner calm.
Did you know that you are a glorious and incredible artist? Wait, really? Well, you are. Shitty Craft Club gives you permission to have fun and be as weird, wild, and wonderful as you want to be. It’s about trying your best, not perfection.
With step-by-step instructions and funny, deeply relatable tales from her life, Sam Reece, founder of the Shitty Craft Club movement, hilariously guides you through dozens of projects. Melding the nihilistic spirit of millennial/Gen Z humor with Amy Sedaris’s gonzo crafting style and a healthy dose of Lisa Frank vibes, Reece proves there’s no limit to what a craft can be.
Making a bunch of pom-poms so you can be your own cheerleader? That’s a craft. Sculpting a rhinestone shrimp out of aluminum foil and a glue gun? A craft. Having literally one sip of water (congrats, by the way)? Yup, you bet—a craft. Because life is hard. So why not spend a bit of time gluing some trash to more trash if it makes you happy?
A SHITTY PHENOMENON: From in-person events at the Ace Hotel and Milk Bar to viral projects on Instagram and TikTok, Sam Reece, the creator of Shitty Craft Club, has cultivated a movement that strikes a chord in today’s stressed-out world. This book captures all the magic of the club (and hopefully inspires you to start your own).
SELF-ESTEEM OVER SELF-IMPROVEMENT: In times of uncertainty and burnout, we all need a little more self-compassion. Treat yourself with kindness and care. Shitty Craft Club gives us the tools to cope in a creative and fun way without feeling the pressure to make everything perfect.
FOR FANS OF MAKING IT AND AT HOME WITH AMY SEDARIS: With projects like Rhinestone Wall Shrimp, the Corndle, and the Shitty Trophy, this book will inspire you to pick up a glue gun, buy a bucket of beads, and make your own strange and beautiful creations.
Perfect for:
- Fans of Sam Reece and the Shitty Craft Club sensation
- Crafters and DIY enthusiasts
- Self-care and mindfulness practitioners
- Fans of Making It, Nailed It!, and At Home with Amy Sedaris
- Creative gift for Mother’s Day, graduation, holidays, and birthdays
