Selena Movie Party at Alamo Drafthouse Denton, Texas

Entertainment

I was so excited last night to be able to attend the Selena Movie Party at Alamo Drafthouse in Denton, Texas. I love sharing new artists and musicians with Charlie. It’s hard to believe she was only 23 when Selena died. My daughter Suzzane was only 6 and Charlie never even got to her here in person which I hate. I still remember where and what I was going the day she died. Just like Elvis and Princess Diana. So much death so much sadness.

I loved that this is a dance party because I knew a lot of the songs and found myself singing along. Although the next time I attend a movie party I am going to sit at the opposite end of the theater from Charlie because he will not let me sing. Which is part of the fun attending movie parties. Would you like to come with me and if so remember I am going to SING!

I had thought we got to the theater early enough to not miss anything, but I came in as the ladies was finishing her talk which stunk. But it was okay as the movie was beginning. We were on the front room which bothered David a little bit but not me because it felt like I could reach out and touch Selena.

The movie began and both Charlie and David became engrossed in the story and didn’t move at all. I can tell if Charlie likes a movie because he will not let me know he needs to go to the restroom. Although, I needed to, but I was leaving because I didn’t want to miss any of the movie. Which I’ve seen a lot on tv but it was nothing like watching it on a big screen.

I love movies that turn into teaching moments and leaves questions for our family to discuss together and this is what Selena did. As Charlie wanted to know what happened to her family which we goggled. Did you know her husband has a Hot Sauce business and David and Charlie can’t wait to find his Hot Sauce to try.

As we were leaving the Theater I let David and Charlie know there is a Selena Museum which Charlie is going to look up. If it isn’t to far David said we might be able to go this Summer and check it. Keep your fingers its crossed so we can go. Would you like to come with? In the meantime Charlie and I will be taking a Homeschool Field Trip this week to a record store to purchase one of her albums.

Before we do Charlie said he would like to learn Spanish which would be a new class for Charlie to take in his Homeschool Classes which we can do as a family. Would you like to learn a Foreign Language with us? David and Charlie wanted me to let you know Jennifer Lopez did a wonderful job portraying Selena and this is one of their favorite movies of K Lo’s. For me I liked the mom a lot and the husband is one hunk of a man.

In Selena you will find yourself singing and wanting to get up and dance. Laughing and sometimes wanting to punch someone ie the dad. As well as crying. Thank the LORD they have us packets of Kleenex which I didn’t know until we left the movie. Next time Charlie says he is going to order a Pizza as well and yes, it will be PEPPERONI and he can eat a medium by himself as well. Although, he will leave the Hot Sauce off he said. How about you. Do you want Hot Sauce on your Pizza?

SELENA MOVIE PARTY

Join us at this very special Movie Party as we celebrate the life and music of one of America’s most beloved icons, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. Sure, we could just sit quietly and watch the magnificent 1997 film SELENA, starring Jennifer Lopez in a star-making performance. But we think the best way to honor Selena is to share in the joy of her music.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
