Seeking Shanti A Family’s Story of Climate Migration

The Mommies Reviews

Good morning, welcome to Labor Day weekend Charlie and I are spending the morning camping on the couch watching movies. Before we turned on the TV, I wanted Charlie to get his reading done for the day. Charlie decided he would read Seeking Shanti: A Family’s Story of Climate Migration by Jesse Byrd (Author), Sandy Kaur Gill (Author), Monica Paola Rodriguez (Illustrator). I received i exchange for this review.

Shanti: A Family’s Story of Climate Migration has a nice calming cover to the book with two little boys siting in the middle of the lake. Which where I would like to be. Would you like to join us? We opened the book up to read the story and the Author included a glossary that explains what words mean which I will be adding to our Homeschool Spelling Class.

We meet the main character Kavya as she comes home from school to go to the Fish Market with Bab after letting Sakhi know she will play fetch with him when she returns. They get to the market and there is no, people and they don’t know why. Unless the rain scared them away. What do you think?

They head home and the rains gets stronger. They see Dadi waiting on the shore waving for them. A storm is coming, and everyone grabs things. Sakhi doesn’t want to come but Kavya says they can’t leave her. But she is told they can’t take her. They leave to meet her uncle. A tree has fallen, which they help more.

Then they continue on their journey to Chacus’s but it’s getting dark. it gets dark like the lights went out. Baba just tells Kavya to hold her hand and they will be fine. She closes her eyes and when she opens them, she sees Chachu. They have to push a jeep out of the mud. I wish we was there Charlie said because we could help them.

They drive further and we learn Kavya feels like she is leaving a piece of herself behind which is how I felt when we had to move from our home to here. Have you ever felt like that? They meet up with other people who are wondering if they will ever get to go home. Now, I am not going to tell you if they get to go back home to shanti or not because I think you should pick up a copy of Shanti: A Family’s Story of Climate Migration to find out for yourself.

Shanti: A Family’s Story of Climate Migration is the perfect children’s book for not only younger children but older children as well who have to deal with a storm. I love how Shanti: A Family’s Story of Climate Migration teaches us lessons and words we didn’t know. Charlie and I believe this book is the perfect addition to school libraries.
