I don’t remember going out to eat with my parents much as a child. Not very often but once in a while my dad would take us out. The places we went to have dinner at does stick in my head.
As we grew up we did go out more. Two of the places we went to a lot was Coor’s Bar-B-Que and Sammie’s Bar-B-Que both of these are in Fort Worth and was right down the street from each other.
When you look at the date you can tell Sammie’s Bar-B-Que has been here a while. My mom was born in 1940 so this was a staple of her life as well. In fact my mom’s Cousin used to wait tables here.
Sammie’s Bar-B-Que was a drive in. The waitresses would skate up to the cars to take everyone’s orders. I don’t remember that part but I do remember going inside Sammie’s Bar-B-Que and Yvonne waiting on us.
In fact most of the time when we go to have dinner at Sammie’s Bar-B-Que we would find Yvonne and her husband Bo sitting in the Bar. They would be having a cold Beer. This is the only time we see Yvonne and Bo. I try and take Charlie to Sammie’s Bar-B-Que couple months because Charlie loves his Aunt Yvonne so much.
Sammie’s Bar-B-Que was sold and I thought David was going to cry. The Smokehouse had purchased Sammie’s Bar-B-Que. David and I had eaten at the Smokehouse in the past which was more of a Bar. Neither David or I liked it as much as Sammie’s Bar-B-Que
David waited and waited for Sammie’s Bar-B-Que to reopen. When Sammie’s Bar-B-Que did open they just opened for lunch. Finally Sammie’s Bar-B-Que opened back up in the evening. We were able to go for dinner.
David was so excited because he wanted to see if Sammie’s Bar-B-Que Had All You Could Eat Ribs which they aren’t doing at this time. David was upset because this only leaves Riscky’s with All You Can Eat Ribs.
I couldn’t wait to order my dinner because I wanted to see if Sammie’s Bar-B-Que had Fring’s Homemade Fries and Onion Rings cooked together they weren’t making them anymore.
I asked for Onion Rings because Yvonne had said they were Homemade and so good. I was so sad when the Waitress let me know they were out of Onion Rings.
David and I went ahead and ordered dinner because we were hungry and wanted to try the Bar-B-Que out. Be watching to see what we ordered and thought of our dinners.
