Remix: Mendelssohn’s Italian

I was able to bring Charlie and David back to the Dallas Symphony. Although this time we were at Moody Performance Hall. Moody Performance Hall was a new place for my family to visit. Once we walked into Moody Performance Hall I felt like I was right at home. I loved how well the Hall was laid out and that there was multiple entrances into the performance hall.

Having the area out front with tables where people could sit and visit made Moody Performance Hall so cozy. I was amazed that there was a bar with snacks for sale. Charlie was excited to find some of his favorite candy bars and David enjoyed being able to enjoy a beer before we entered the Hall. With our tickets came one free drink and we choose their specialty drink. David and I enjoyed this new beverage a lot.

For Charlie we were able to purchase a Soda for him and they had quite a few varieties he could choose from. I let him know he needed to finish his drink before we went inside because I didn’t know you could bring your drinks and snacks inside. Although even if I had none this I wouldn’t have bought the drinks in.

I didn’t want to hold empty cups during the event. Or for Charlie or David to leave and throw the cups away because there is a sign that says if you arrive lats it’s up to the USHERS discretion to let you inside. So to me it wasn’t polite to walk out during the performance. Although a couple people did.

I didn’t want to make any mistakes at this event I didn’t take pictures although I saw a couple people take some and no, one said anything to them. Although for me I just didn’t feel right taking pictures. I wanted to make sure Charlie knows what is right and wrong when attending a performance like this I didn’t want to do something Charlie shouldn’t do.

Once the Symphony performers were seated and the conductor came out to begin the performance both Charlie and I were surprised the Conductor was a lady but she did a remarkable job. Charlie has decided if she can conduct a Symphony then he could as well. Charlie has decided he would like to learn how to play the Piano for Homeschool Music class.

This week Charlie and I will be researching Ruth Reinhardts concerts because we would like to see Ruth perform another Symphony in the Future. For Homeschool Charlie and I were able to bring home a program. I love how inside the program it allows us to not only get to know Ruth better but other conductors as well which we can study in our music class.

Once the Music began I was afraid Charlie would want to talk but he was mesmerized and didn’t move until the show was over.  For a parent with a child knowing the show is a  little over a hour was perfect as this is about how long a child can sit without wanting to get up and move around. As well as for people like me who can’t sit for long periods of time without hurting.

Bringing a Redneck like David to the Symphony you never know what will or will not happen. I was afraid David would fall asleep during the performance and end up snoring but David didn’t. In fact once the performance was over David  asked me if we could come back as he enjoyed the Music a lot and loved seeing all the Instruments in the Symphony.

Halfway through the show I begin to hurt so during a lull I went and took Charlie to the restroom. While in the Hall I noticed a TV playing the concert so Charlie went back inside with his dad. I sat in the Lobby and listened to the music and was able to relax and just chill and people watch which I thoroughly enjoyed.

David surprised me on the way home when he asked me what the upcoming events would be and if I would like to get tickets since we all enjoyed this performance. I let David know I would look once I got home then David let me know to also look up how we could become members of the Symphony which I never thought would happen.

I have been so Blessed by attending events at Moody Performance Hall and also Dallay Symphony as they allow me to spend time with my family. Learning and listening to music in ways I never thought would be possible. As well as supplementing Charlies Homeschool classes. Spending time doing something my daughter and Uncle loved while allowing me to share their stories with Charlie and Suzzane.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
