This is a review for the children’s book Remember Me When…: Creating Memories to Last a Lifetime by Todd Williams and Illustrated by Ciara Compton which I received in exchange for this review.
The other day I sat down to read Remember Me When…: Creating Memories. I found myself wishing I had this book when my mom got sick and she could have read it to Charlie.
You see Charlie was only 6 at the time and he didn’t understand what was happening but through Remember Me When…: Creating Memories we could have prepared Charlie for his passing.
As for my dad we didn’t even know he was going to pass so there was no, time to prepare anyone but if I had Remember Me When…: Creating Memories then I could have shared the story with Charlie and showed him ways he could still see his grandfather even though he wasn’t here physically.
I believe all School, Parents and Libraries should have copies of I Remember When for those times someone we love passes and we need to talk to our children about it.
I liked that in the back of the book is space to write how we would like to be remembered and I am going to have Charlie and I fill it out as a family then if something happens to us we will know there wishes.
About:
Do you know how you’d like to be remembered by the children you love after you’ve gone to heaven? In this special memory book, share the many ways we can remember each other, from eating Strawberries in the Spring to playing dress-up with friends and watching Fireflies light up the Summer skies.
Then add your own family memories to create a lifelong keepsake. With joyful, full-page color illustrations reflecting the diversity of God’s children, Remember Me When… celebrates the moments children have shared with family and friends and provides an opportunity to talk about the inevitable reality of death and grief and how God comforts us in those times.
In a season where grief from the COVID-19 pandemic will become more public and a shared international experience, Remember Me When… will empower families to Mourn in healthy, positive ways. This legacy book also includes a blank page for writing in your own remembrance.
