Red Rock Redemption: A Dystopian Space Opera (The Beginning Book 1) by Penelope J Bristol (Review)

The Mommies Reviews

I thought I would share a book based on Space and Mars with you making this book a Sci-Fi Thriller called Red Rock Redemption: A Dystopian Space Opera (The Beginning Book 1) by Penelope J Bristol (Author). I received a PDF copy of from Voracious Readers and the Author for a review. Inside this post is my affiliate links. If you click on the links and make a purchase I will make a small percentage from the products you purchase.

First and foremost I didn’t realize Red Rock Redemption: A Dystopian Space Opera (The Beginning Book 1) was part of a series until after I requested to read the book or I might not have asked for this book because the Author hasn’t written the seond one and I feel like she left us hanging which I don’t like.

In the story we find out 12 juniors were randomly selected from around the US, to go to Mars. They are speed-run them through astronaut training, and then the juniors are launched into space to go to Mars. Like my son who is 16 the students acted more like 14 year olds than 17 year olds. I know that is how children act but at times it did get annoying. I’m not sure once the Author finishes book two if I will read it or not because by then I would need to re-read book one to remind me what happened and this isn’t a book I would typically re-read.

Just because I’m on the fence about the story doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check out the book and the Author who is new to our family. Being about juniors I would say this book is a YS that adults may enjoy just as much as children. After sharing the description with Charlie he said Red Rock Redemption: A Dystopian Space Opera is more for boys which I don’t agree with.

About the book:

Eleven teenagers embark on a mission to Mars sponsored by Red Rock Inc, a company desperate to colonize the fourth rock from the sun. However, shortly after leaving Earth, a handful of the M6 crew begin to encounter an otherworldly force that begins to change their bodies in unimaginable ways.

As the teens struggle to survive the journey to Mars, a bigger secret awaits them upon landing. The mission is nothing like what they signed up for, and soon, they realize they’re stuck on Mars for a darker purpose. But the planet has its own plans and a history of terrorizing anyone stupid enough to try to outsmart it.

Will they unravel the secrets only the adults seem to know and make it back alive? Join these brave teens on a journey of colonization gone wrong as they fight to uncover the chilling truth hidden inside the red planet in book one of this fantastical series.
