Plastic Free July

The Mommies Reviews

It’s Plastic Free July, and with that, people are looking for ways to reuse, re-purpose and recycle their plastic bottles and even old toys. In fact, TheSoul Publishing found that videos about recycling old toys are getting more than 7 million views, and their 5 Minute Crafts Recycle channel is becoming even more popular with 1.1 million followers in just a few weeks.

Looking for ways to re-purpose or recycle this month? Here are some ideas from The Soul Publishing’s 5 Minute Crafts channel:

Use a plastic bottle to make a gift box. Cut the middles and piece them together for a box perfect for jewelry or small items. (Instructions here)

Take the top of your soda can and make it into a picture hanger. Some simple glue and your standing only frame becomes wall-hanging! (Instructions here)

Repurpose a laundry detergent bottle to make your own plant holder. A few simple cuts sand you have the perfect decorative pot. (Instructions here)

Use the bottom of your celery to replant and grow you own. Just put it in water for a few days, move it to soil and then you’ll have homegrown celery. (Instructions here)

Reuse a straw to reseal packaging.

Cutting a straw and sliding it over a yogurt container keeps it closed so it doesn’t go to waste if you don’t eat it all at once! (Instructions here).

Broken zipper?

Don’t throw it out – fix it with a fork. You can use this to thread a zipper bull back onto a sweatshirt or jacket so it’s good as new! (Instructions here).

Reuse old jeans by cutting off the legs and making a couch holder.

With hot glue and the top of a shoebox, you can make a shelf to hold your drink, remotes and more that slings over the arm of your couch. (Instructions here)
