We all know babies can be fun but a lot of work but it still doesn’t stop me from wanting a little girl. As Charlie get older I’ve been putting aside books for Charlie to share with his children if he has any children. I can’t wait to share Pass The Baby by Susanna Reich (Author), Raúl Colón (Illustrator) with Charlie and Mia and to remind them I received a copy of the book in exchange for this review. I love how the Author started the book at the family dinner table which I believe more of us should utilize including my family. I loved learning how they set the table and included candles which I used to always do as well. But its been years since I’ve put candles on our table and being Easter weekend it might be time to start this habit again.
This they ask where is the baby. He is playing peekaboo. Doesn’t that look like fun? its time to call the guests to the dinner table. Opp’s baby’s fussing. He must be hungry and then its time for us to eat. Now let’s pass the baby around the table which I also had to do at times when Charlie was little and I wanted to eat. Have you ever had to pass the baby around the table?
Everyone is making dishes for dinner and baby wants a little lap time but do not squeeze the baby. Watch out the baby is excited and may kick you. Everyone is eating but the baby is playing with a Meatball. Its time to pass the baby around the table again. Look underneath the chair its the dog grabbing anything the baby drops.
Watch out the baby is flinging food onto the floor and here is the dog lapping it up. Time for dessert and let me tell you I wish I had been invited for dinner because there was Enchilada’s, Meatballs, Vanilla Ice Cream with Cakes and Cookies. Oh, no the baby has spilled a cup of coffee on grannies favorite dress. Although you wouldn’t find Charlie’s grandmother wearing a dress ever.
here we go again pass the baby around the table until its time to say good night. First there is lots of messes to clean up. Everyone is tired and soon it will be time for everyone to leave. Can you guess what happens next? The baby and his sibling is still playing while everyone is sleeping. If I was there I know I would be catnapping. What about you?
About the book:
A delightful meal with a big extended family becomes a free-for-all when one particularly excitable baby joins the fun.
Family dinner, set the table,
Forks and spoons and napkins too,
Knives and plates and water glasses,
Flowers, placemats, white and blue.
Wait a minute, where’s the baby?
Someone’s playing peek-a-boo!
What does it take to make a perfect family meal? Is it the forks, spoons, plates, and napkins? Maybe it’s sister’s lemonade, Papi’s guacamole, or delicious meatballs and ravioli eyed by a hungry pup. When it’s time to sit down and dig in, there’s one thing everybody agrees they need to do, “Baby, baby, pass the baby!”
This rollicking, rhyming picture book about one (rather large) diverse family dinner table captures the buzz and hum of a shared meal, with one adorably excitable baby at its center, eager to join the fun. With Pass the Baby, author Susanna Reich imbues her text with an undercurrent of harmony, warmth and inclusivity, complimented by ebullient illustrations by Raúl Colón.
