A couple of weeks ago I shared an event with you called Paper for Water held at the Galleria Mall in Dallas, Texas. I don’t know if you had seen the post telling you about this event or you’re familiar with the fantastic Dallas-based Charity Paper for Water , but to me, it’s a real story of what a difference children can make in improving our world.
Paper for Water was founded by sisters Katherine and Isabelle Adams when they were only 5 and eight years old. Now, six years later, the pair have raised over $1.5 million to fund over 150 clean water projects across the globe.
I would like to let you know my family was able to meet not only these two young ladies but their younger sister as well as there mom and grandmother.
Charlie amazed me with how well he clicked with the whole family. In fact, they had Wrestling in common because their family Coached Wrestling or had wrestled in the past.
As the day went on Charlie became so comfortable he even decided to try and make an Origami Butterfly of his own, and he let the girls help him which amazed me because Charlie doesn’t like girls of any kind.
I was so blessed to see all the Butterflies and the different colors they used to create them with. I stood under the Butterflies, and I felt a peace I hadn’t felt all that week.
For those that didn’t know it was Mother’s Day weekend and Suzzane’s Birthday. Which is why I wanted to attend Paper for Water . I could feel Suzzie presence as I walked around.
I know if Suzzie had been here just like Charlie she would have wanted to adopt this family. In fact, before we left even David feel in love with the family and decided to ask the Airport where he works at to sign up to sponsor Paper for Water.
David let me know he thinks we should sponsor also Paper for Water as a family project. Both Charlie and I agreed with David and we signed up this week.
Galleria Dallas is partnering with Paper for Water to create a beautiful art installation featuring over 4,000 origami butterflies. Creating the Butterflies took them over 800 hours to create the Butterflies which are hovering over their iconic Ice Rink. I loved seeing the girls at work teaching children how to make the Butterflies.
While at the event we meet international origami expert Ekaterina Lukasheva and watch her work. I was amazed to find out she has books for sale. I plan on purchasing these books to use in our Homeschool classroom. As well as picking up a copy of the books for my stepdaughter who loves making new and unusual things for her home.
My family walked around and we saw a pump like Paper for Water uses to get water for the people. It was nice to be able to learn more about Davids family as he let us know his grandfather used to use one of these pumps in his work.
Charlie and David were able to try out the pumps and I was able to watch them pump the water into a bucket. I loved having Charlie experience this as it allowed us to come up with a new lesson to use in our classroom
