Out of the Depths could be described as a romance for some and for other they might refer to the story as a Historical Novel so let’s combine them and call this a Historical Romance that takes place from Mann to Germany. You will find romance, drama and at times there is even suspense thanks to the Author.
Out of the Depths takes place during the War, when a British nurse Peny falls in love with a German U-boat officer Penny, finds who is an injured enemy soldier named Anton on the Beach. Penny and a Doctor nurses Anton back to health but their relationship is complicated by the War. As Penny gets to know Anton, she begins to see him as more than just an enemy soldier. Anton is a human being with his own thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
About the book:
In the aftermath of war, can love truly conquer all?
When a U-boat hits a mine in the treacherous Irish Sea, hope for survival seems impossible. However, against all odds, three survivors manage to wash up on the shore of the isolated Isle of Man. It is here that Penny stumbles upon Anton and nurses him back to health. As their bond develops, an extraordinary love story unfolds. But fate has different plans for the couple. Anton’s repatriation to a ravaged land tears them apart, casting a shadow over their lives.
Penny embarks on a difficult journey to reunite with Anton, heedless of the dangers that lay ahead. She finds herself in the harrowing depths of a recently liberated concentration camp, Dachau. Amidst the horrors of this nightmarish reality, she and Anton fight to survive, facing hardships and a brutal assault. Their struggles do not end there
. Anton’s brother becomes enmeshed in the treacherous web of the ‘ratlines,’ aiding former Nazis to escape justice. The couple must navigate a treacherous path to protect themselves and those they hold dear. With time running out and their enemies closing in, they must summon every ounce of courage to forge a future free from the tragedies of the past.
Will love triumph over hatred? Can two people burdened by the history of their Countries ever find happiness in a world teetering on the edge of recovery? Emotionally charged and brimming with raw intensity, “Out of the Depths” is a captivating tale that explores the indomitable power of love amidst the ruins of war.
About the author: Michele McGrath
I was born on the Isle of Man and then moved to California, France and Lancashire before returning home. I graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, which was a wonderful experience, and I hold an M.A. from the University of Central Lancashire, both in History. Now retired as a Careers Advisor and former manager, I teach swimming to junior school pupils and write ebooks.
Although my books are in many genres, my favourites are historical fiction and fantasy. Usually, the periods I choose are Napoleon’s Consulate and Empire or the English Regency era. I was a prize winner at the West Cork Literary Festival and have been short-listed several times. I have recently rediscovered my love of research and started to write again. My latest book, The Flowers of Munich, and its prequel, Doctor Sam, which is a work in progress, are the result.
Please note that my books are written in British English and that some words such as “corn” (which means oats, wheat, barley or rye not maize) can have different meanings in the USA.
Thank you,
