Only: The Bird Who Liked Being Alone

The Mommies Reviews

I thought I would share a new children’s book called Only: The Bird Who Liked Being Alone by Airlie Anderson (Author) which I received a copy of in exchange for this review.

Charlie and I were going on a walk this morning and before we left the house I had Charlie read Only: The Bird Who Liked Being Alone to me. Then I let Charlie know why we were out I wanted him to see if he saw any Birds like inside the story. As we finished the book Charlie and I discussed which Bird we are most alike and both Charlie and I said at times were like Only and like to be quiet.

Then other times we like to be like the other Birds and sing and make noise. Charlie and I created us a quiet space up on our top balcony so when we want to be quiet we have somewhere to go. Then we created us a music corner and set the book up on display. Charlie and I’ve had fun discussing each Bird and seeing Charlie draw them in his Homeschool Art Class.

Only: The Bird Who Liked Being Alone is for younger children but I can see adults and older children enjoying the book as well. Easter and Valentines is right around the corner and Only: The Bird Who Liked Being Alone would make the perfect Valentines Day Gift as well as Easter. If your a teacher and your students will be teaching lessons on Birds I hope you include this book in your studies.

About the book:

In the tradition of The Quiet Book, this book tells the story of a bird who likes being alone, but doesn’t want to be lonely.

Only likes quiet time, and they definitely like being alone. All the other birds are too loud and too rough! Only decides to create a peaceful space that’s just for them, but when a friend shows up wanting to try some quiet time too, the two birds must figure out a way to be sure no one feels left out.

In this companion title to Neither, Airlie Anderson shows readers that it’s okay to sometimes be noisy, to sometimes be quiet, to sometimes be together, and to sometimes be alone—as long as no one is made to feel lonely.
